 Re: Golden Globe Nominations
^ Both won't happen, IMO.
I'm still absolutely BAFFLED by the Globes' lofe for The Ides of March. Picture? Okay. Director...maaayybe...but Screenplay too? Despite only FIVE Screenplay spots?!!
Have there ever been a movie to get four MAJOR Globes noms (Picture/Director/Actor/Screenplay), but not to get a SINGLE Oscar nom? Because that's what kinda might happen here.

 Re: Golden Globe Nominations
I find the Best Director nomination odder than Best Screenplay. The screenplay at least has lots of Big Scenes, where characters yell themes at each other, and snappy dialogue, with a bit of "inside baseball" lingo thrown in to prove the writers know K Street from Sesame Street.
But to nominate Clooney's solid-but-unremarkable direction over Fincher, Malick...

 Re: Golden Globe Nominations
It'll get something at the Oscars. Best Adapted Screenplay (even though the category is crowded), or Best Supporting Actor for someone. Maybe even Best Score - we know how weird that category can be, and it is Desplat.

Adapted Screenplay is crowded as HELL. Don't see how it can fit in above either of: Moneyball, The Help, The Descendants, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Hugo, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy or even War Horse...

I could see it getting in over a few of those. In case this wasn't obvious by now, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy isn't hugely resonating with American audiences. Sad, but true. And War Horse is obviously more of a director/cinematographer type movie, not screenplay-centric. The Ides of March fits the bill of a lone-screenplay-nomination movie. Lots of Big Conversations with Big Themes, based on a play, etc.

 Re: Golden Globe Nominations
I know the critics awards don't mean much after last year, but the Globes are the only awwards so far (maybe except for the Golden Satellites) where The Ides of March got a screenplay mention. Seriously. TTSS at least got several nominations (BFCA, Chicago) and won, for instance, in San Francisco.

 Re: Golden Globe Nominations
And, hell, Carnage is the one that fits the bill quite well too.
