Overall, not bad. The "Oh my God! Clooney! Gosling! CLOONEY! Stars! Stars everywhere!" Ides of March love is a distraction, but otherwise these are satisfying, if a bit safe.

I was thrilled and relieved to hear Fassbender's name since this nomination was key for Shame moving forward, both as an awards contender and at the box office. Pity Carey Mulligan seems to be slipping out of the race, though...

Gosling's nomination for Crazy, Stupid, Love. is a bit dumb (wasn't Carell the lead?), but I s'pose I can live with it. It's sad, though, he was double nominated, but neither was for Drive, easily the best of his many 2011 releases.

Big ouch for Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, which the HFPA should've eaten up and demanded seconds of.

It's funny how they just threw War Horse into the Best Picture - Drama category, à la The Great Debaters a few years ago.

I see The Descendants winning Best Picture (Drama), not The Help. Also see Clooney winning Best Actor.

Especially vicious considering they gave Bridesmaids a lot of love in general.

On the HFPA website, they have Carnage listed for Best Picture, even though it wasn't announced on the podium. Oops? http://www.goldenglobes.org/blog/2011/12/the-nominees/

Agreed. Too bad there's a legitimate Oscar frontrunner in the category--Dujardin--or maybe Gleeson could have won. After all, they did give give an award to Colin Farrell for In Bruges (one of their best moves in recent years).

If Carnage is indeed nominated for Best Picture here, in addition to the two Best Actress nods, Sony Classics made a mistake with their expansion plan. It'll only be playing in New York and California until January 13th, two days before it will lose at the Globes and then score no Oscar nominations.

I'm not ready to write Extremely Loud off entirely but it's certainly not looking to be a big factor in the race at this point.

I guess the thing that has made me happiest the last few days has been the triple noms (BFCA, SAG, GG) scored by Jessica Chastain. I loved her in The Help and was worried she would be overshadowed by others.

It's too bad it's not all happening for her far superior performance in Take Shelter, though.

Horrible sign for Extremely Loud if they saw it. With the Globes being starfuckers... starfuckers everywhere, you'd think they'd vote in Hanks and his movie without seeing it

I'm sad that Carey Mulligan missed out. Guess there's no hope for Elizabeth Olsen anymore either. Also wish Gosling would have been nominated for Drive, and that the film would have gotten more love in general.

Nice to see 50/50 nominated for Best Picture and Best Actor.

The trailer for In the Land of Blood and Honey has all English dialogue. Strange for it to be nominated for Best Foreign Language Film then.

There are two versions. The one they've ultimately decided to release is in Serbo-Croat, though the English-language version will be made available to theatres that won't play the other one.

So, two nominations for the panned Madonna film. It's supposed to get a wide release February 3rd.

People keep acting as if this is so bizarre, but it was only nominated for score and song.

The composer, Abel Korzeniowski, was responsible for one of my favorite scores of recent years (A Single Man), so I bet he did a terrific job with this, too.

It's not that it's THAT bizarre. It's not like it got any big nominations. I just wouldn't have predicted it to get nominated for anything.

You have to remember everyone at Awards Daily is a gay-camp hen. Best Actress debate gets vicious.

I wish Weinstein hadn't been able to category-fraud Williams into the Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) category. Theron deserves to win for a truly brilliant comic performance.
