 Re: Production Budgets
That's a good budget for Bucky and Warrior, not sure if Creature will be able to make $3m in its theatrical run.

Given the cast and ensemble that's a great budget for Contagion.

 Re: Production Budgets
I agree and I thought the budget was atleast $80M, but I'm glad that there is atleast one studio that knows how to control their budgets.

I guess people like working with Soderbergh (he's had responsibly budgeted movies before--Informant only cost 22M, etc.).

 Re: Production Budgets
That's good budget for all three but not sure if any will make it in theatrical release alone. Drive has the best chance, not only it is having better chance the tracking for it is much better than the other two.
Is there a way to get numbers on TLK re-release? I mean how much does a studio spend on these re-releases?

 Re: Production Budgets
Yes agreed it is an advertisement for Blu-Ray. I am sure though not only the conversion but also to make those copies would have taken out some cash. I too don't think it will be much but you never know, Disney is not known for controlling budget. Smaller studios shy away from wide releases because they want to control the theatrical copies more than we know of, so I presume that won't be as cheap.

 Re: Production Budgets
OMG! OMG! 70 million dollars for Killer Elite What were they thinking? Did they give like $1m to electricians as well? Could have been better for Moneyball. Amazing for Dolphin Tale and given the opening it is going to be a huge success for Disney. Given that OS numbers will be big that budget is good for Abduction as well, but I can't say how they will recover marketing costs, LG was trying tooooo hard to sell this movie and ended up dumping it in September

 Re: Production Budgets
According to Variety, the US distributor picked up KILLER ELITE for free and only has to recoup P&A...

 Re: Production Budgets
$8M 50/50 $50M Dream House $2M Courageous $20M What's Your Number ? Link - http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/enterta ... umber.html? Damn that budget for DH sounds ridicoulously high for some reason. I mean outside of Craig there are no big name actors in it. I expected a $20-$30M budget, but this just proves that once again Universal doesn't know how to control budgets.

 Re: Production Budgets
Weisz and Watts are also big names, not to mention it has a director with six Oscar nominations under his belt. 50 mil. isn't so bad for a project with such an impressive pedigree, though it seems the production had trouble along the way.

 Re: Production Budgets
I kinda agree with wrongturn on DH, even though the names are known they are not box-office draws. Given the films subject matter it would be difficult to find audience with this cast IMO
Good numbers for 50/50 and What's Your Number?, great for Courageous but I kinda expected this number.

Jim Sheridan's last film Brothers arguably had just as respected a cast (including a bit part for Carey Mulligan ) and a few visual f/x too, yet it cost a reported $26 million. And then look at the horror genre itself - how often does a haunted house movie cost 50 million?

 Re: Production Budgets
$110M Real Steel $12.5M Ides Of March Link - http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/enterta ... march.html. Pretty pricey for Real Steel and I'm betting a good percentage of that budget includes marketing since it was previously reported that the original budget was around $80M. Still it could end up being profitable as long as the legs are really good. Fantasic budget for Ides too.

 Re: Production Budgets
Dream House was produced by Morgan Creek not Universal. They are only distributors.
Real Steel should do okay WW to justify an 80.0 mil budget. Let's hope that extra 30.0 mil is something else.
Ides is cheap. George must have taken almost nothing to do it.

 Re: Production Budgets
Real Steel is kinda costly but I see it making profit in the OS markets and in the overall WW total.
Ides is really dirt cheap, should even its budget this weekend itself, if it gets awards attention then it can do great in OS markets as well.

 Re: Production Budgets
With that budget, I don't Fox should have given up on The Big Year- reviews aren't bad, it stars three bankable actors, and the director did two of the studio's biggest recent comedies. Then again, maybe few want to see a movie about bird watching.
Good news for Footloose, bad news for The Thing.
