Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open '11
Great match. It's a shame to see one lose. Poor Roger. He'll have more chances but dang he let this slip out of his hands. One superior serve from victory is how I saw that.
Should Novak win the Open then I'd easily put this season above Rogers 3 slam years. Don't get me wrong. Roger is still the better player but Novak is having one of those dream seasons that very few players ever get a chance at doing.
Looking forward, I'd prefer Nadal as his opponent but Andy would be fine. They will both be difficult to beat. Also, guess I'll be watching the women's semis on usopen.org. Can't wait for that.

184 matches up 2-0 sets, 2nd loss ever, both this year. Tough year for Fed. Hope he can shake it off ok. Must have been worse against Tsonga.

Nah, I'll put it equal, but not clearly above. I think Roger making 4 Finals makes up for Djokovic's slightly better non majors winning if he goes undefeated the rest of the year, and I still don't think this has been as easy for Djokovic as Roger's seemed. The one thing I'll always remember with prime Federer is how it was a shocking, top of the hour news story on sports radio when he lost a match to anyone, it was like you just heard a story about a high school team beating a university or pro team in basketball or something

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open '11
I think it would be better. Novak is playing MUCH stronger competition than Roger did from 06-07.
However, Federer losing is actually the BEST thing he could have done to his legacy. Nadal would beat him in the final. Federer may have Novak's number but he doesn't have Nadal's and never will. But Novak is probably the favorite now to beat Nadal.
The thing is that if Nadal ever ties Federer (or even just gets to 15), Federer's status of "greatest of all time" becomes highly questionable. And I think if Nadal wins this US Open, he will be on pace to get at least 15 if not more. However, if he doesn't, he may just end up with 14 which will make Federer's case for GOAT stronger.

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open '11
I saw it. Stosur wasn't getting that ball.
Serena beat herself playing so poorly combined with Stosur's superior play today. Pretty surprising loss for Serena but I think she'll still win a couple more majors.
Hopefully, Novak wins tomorrow but either player will be a fitting champion.

It doesn't matter if Stosur was getting that ball, Serena still screamed before she hit it. And then she freaked out on the chair umpire.

I enjoy a good tennis outburst but Williams' yesterday was just disgusting.

Very glad Stosur kicked her ass in straight sets. All these divas and spoiled brats bring the game down.

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open '11
The thing with Serena's outburst is that she came off as if she was like "how dare you do that to me" rather than "I think you made a horrible call". The latter is acceptable (to an extent); the former should not be allowed in this sport.
She needs to be disciplined. The problem is that the sport needs her from a commercial point so discipling her would hurt the sport.

Looks like a 4th set on the way.
Also, who else is tired of Nadal and his wedgies. For goodness sakes...
PS, I love the seeing the 3 business men near courtside in the near court who seem to be rooting for Novak hardcore.

I can't believe Novak is fighting through this pain.
It certainly helps that Nadal can't buy a good serve lately.

Sloppy ending to the match but you can't fault them. Nadal was apparently completely out of gas and Novak was walking around with a tight back.
They both deserve a nice long hot bath.

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open '11
Djoker just a few steps closer to the greatest season ever. Just needs to win the ATP World Tour Final and he'll cap off the greatest season in tennis history.
Question now becomes whether he can continue it in 2012. McEnroe had 0 majors after 1984. Djoker shouldn't follow the same fate but nothing is certain.
As unforeseeable his 2011 season was, his future is even moreso.
