Re: The Debt
The performances were pretty good, Chastain being the standout, but the script is fairly weak. It all seems too much by the books and even when the "twist" is revealed, the response is not strong enough. *1/2

1 and a half stars - ouch! I thought it was great - one of the standouts of the year.

THE DEBT - 8/10 (A-)
I was so impressed by this. A very intelligent and well-made thriller. Jessica Chastain is simply wonderful here. With her roles in many films throughout 2011 (The Help, Tree of Life, Take Shelter, and this) I can say without a doubt that I love this woman. She's a true talent. Sam Worthington was great in this and at the best I've seen him. The love triangle between the main characters was surprisingly involving.
I originally wasn't even that interested in this but am so glad I saw it. Didn't think I'd love it so much.

Re: The Debt
I think all the flashbacks and non-linear chronology actually hurts the film more than anything. It would've worked a lot better as a more straight-forward narrative, in my opinion. Far too convoluted otherwise.
But Chastain and Mirren are great, although more Ciarán Hinds would've been welcome (as always). And Sam Worthington was pretty good, actually. Surprisingly.
