 Re: Production Budgets
Some really over-budgeted movies this weekend though I think $45m for CSL is fine (a little less could have been better, but this is ok).
C&A would definitely need OS markets to get that money back and with the Cowboy genre that might not be true. I think Craig with Bond connection might pull in some audience and the movie is getting a big tentpole release in the markets I saw which would help its prospects.
I think Smurfs will break even, still they should have made it in lesser budget.

 Re: Production Budgets
lol, Universal just never learn. I swear, you could go into their office, say, "Pierce Brosnan is a high-powered executive who never had time for love, but after a car crash he turns to the simpler life of a gardener. A big flower contest is on the horizon, and his main rival is Nicole Kidman, who has won seven years in a row. But rivalry soon turns to affection when the sparks begin to fly. Richard Curtis directs.," and leave with at least 80 mil., maybe more.
As I've said before, I respect the fact they've given a few of my favorite filmmakers (Michael Mann, Paul Greengrass, Judd Apatow) big expensive sandboxes to play in. I truly do. But they seriously need to reconsider their budgeting allowances.

 Re: Production Budgets
Funny People is exactly the film I was speaking of.

Let's pretend I just said Michael Mann and Paul Greengrass.

 Re: Production Budgets
Considering something like How Do You Know cost $120M to make, Crazy Stupid Love's $45M is a borderline bargain.

$93M Rise Of The Apes $52M The Change-Up Link - http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/enterta ... ge-up.htmlSounds pretty much expected for Apes, but that budget for Change-Up is deffentially higher than I expected.

 Re: Production Budgets
That looks like a very good budget for Apes. TCU not so good could/should have been about $35m-$40m.

Exactly. It's pretty impressive they managed to keep the budget flat.

 Re: Production Budgets
Wasn't there a rumor or something last year that the budget was like $60M ? I'm suprised it stayed flat aswell and it will easily break even with $160-$170M WW.

 Re: Production Budgets
That's an absolutely fantastic budget for Spy Kids. The original cost 35 million 10 years ago.

 Re: Production Budgets
Except for Conan every movie has a good to great budget specially Spy Kids, but that also means that VFX will be that terrible.
Of all the movies I actually like Fright Night's budget the best. One Day might not get its budget back in theatrical run. Conan has a flop written all over it.

 Re: Production Budgets
I wonder if the budget is bloated from pre-production to previous attempts at rebooting Conan? I mean fantasy movies can be expensive but even with 3D the lack of big names made it seem like this shouldn't have cost over twice as much as Season of the Witch. Then again the effects do look much better than that... But still even Battle LA and it's awesome special effects only cost 70 million.

According to BOM his three feature length movies combined cost less than Conan apparently does.

 Re: Production Budgets
Not sure how accurate the number is but BO.com has Gnomeo and Juliet at $65m budget ( http://www.boxofficemagazine.com/statis ... d%20Juliet). Much believable than $36m listed at its Twiki Page ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnomeo_%26_Juliet)

Well Pathfinder had a bloated budget considering what it was, but yeah, his two horror films had very modest budgets, and conan is definitely blown beyond Pathfinder.

 Re: Production Budgets
okish for Colombiana, I read most of the places were saying the budget was approx $40m, though not sure what conversion rate they applied.
Great for DBAOTD and MIBR, I don't see how they will make huge money overall but given the budget they should not have tough time making that money back.
