Tree of Life was never gonna be a hit with mainstream audiences, but at least they could've tried to fool some people with the big names and make some more money.

Yeah, Tree of Life really should've been able to do $15-20M. It never would have made more than that even with a wide release, though.

I mean, The Thin Red Line only made $36m with an insane cast, Oscar buzz, and a WWII setting, but at least it got a wide release.

I wonder how much it would've made if they had handled it the way Focus Features handled The American last year.

Cut a completely misleading, sentimental trailer, ignoring anything odd or surreal or spiritual. Full-on Stand by Me 2.0 with Sean Penn and Brad Pitt.

Open it in 1,800-2,500 theatres right away.

Maybe 17 mil./40 or around there.
