Re: Fox Searchlight's non-Tree of Life summer releases Yeah, Tree of Life really should've been able to do $15-20M. It never would have made more than that even with a wide release, though.

Cut a completely misleading, sentimental trailer, ignoring anything odd or surreal or spiritual. Full-on Stand by Me 2.0 with Sean Penn and Brad Pitt.
Open it in 1,800-2,500 theatres right away.
Maybe 17 mil./40 or around there.
