Pretty good opening for Crazy Stupid Love. I thought it would get bogged down by all the R-rated comedies in the past few months. Looks like the train just keeps on rollin'.

It's interesting to note that The Smurfs' number was adjusted up from Nikki. CA was also up while CSL was down.

If Smurfs does $40 m in late July, a December opening imo probably could have helped it match Alvin and the Chipmunks total. It won't have the legs it could have in the winter.

Very strong for The Smurfs. The Jetsons movie should finally be pushed forward after 10+ years of development...

Fucking ridiculous

I guess the low numbers for C&A do make some since considering I didn't hear about a single sellout for it last night. I should have known those $17M projections were pretty ridicoulous. Also like I said before Smurfs is the real story of the weekend. Finally we have a family flick that didn't dissapoint eventhough the movie is complete shit.

Very poor for Potter and Captain America. Thor should easily win the comic book battle of the summer now. Meanwhile Potter is struggling to take the top spot of 2011, despite Transformers dying to give it away.

Cars and Pooh both see big drops from yesterday. Winnie should have had the run Smurfs will have. Cars 2 finishing with under a 3 multiplier is pure craziness.

Yeah, poor Pooh. It lost a lot of theaters though, and SMURFS stole away the kids.

Solid debuts for THE DEVIL'S DOUBLE and ATTACK THE BLOCK.

Cowboys & Aliens feels disappointing compared to the expectations I had six, seven months ago, but acceptable (if a bit dull) when compared to my expectations two days ago.

The Smurfs broke out. I expected it to do well ($25M-ish) but not this well. I guess the nicest thing I can say is that I'm happy for its human actors.

Cowboys & Aliens didn't tank but that's a little middle-of-the-road considering it seemed like it had the potential to be a big blockbuster earlier in the year.

About what I expected for Crazy, Stupid, Love. A $19-20M opening could lead to $80M total.

Captain America's plunge is pretty drastic, not sure what happened there. OK for Harry Potter's third weekend hold. Friends with Benefits should even out to a standard 45% drop for the weekend.

Whoever put out Devil's Double did a good job selling it, IMO. Most "art-house movies" (used loosely) have very austere, hard-to-follow, insular trailers, but this one was all ballsy action montages and sexy girls and "Personal Jesus." Snazzy.

Here's all you need to know about the Smurfs. They hired Katy Perry. To talk. Not for her boobs. Not even for her singing. To talk. If a mayor passed a bill that had all the town's funds diverted to pass a bill building a chocolate bouncy castle in the middle of August, you don't need to try the chocolate castle for yourself to know that town elected a bad mayor.

I'm sure it will. Eat Pray Love last summer opened to 23 Million and did 80 Million. This will surely have better legs.

In the cartoon Gargamel was always trying to turn the Smurfs into gold. The Smurfs didn't want that because the alchemy process would kill them. Sometimes you should just Philosopher's Stop.

I think 30 Minutes or Less will have no impact on CSL whatsoever given that it should skew young and male. My audience was like 90% women, not sure about yours. So I think its biggest competition will be Emma Stone again in The Help.

Which I still, of course, maintain is being underestimated.

Yeah The Change Up will have some effect on CSL

Yes, The Help will be its biggest direct competition. I don't think The Change-Up will hurt it much. The audience for CSL is more upscale adults I think, and I doubt they'll be swayed by a Ryan Reynolds body-switch comedy. And 30 Minutes or Less won't do anything to it. It's a comedy but a totally different audience.

According to the Flixster Bullseye The Change-Up is defentially tracking the strongest with women.

Also, Libs, I actually disagree about the "Good for human cast" part. The movie probably got Neil Patrick Harris a nice car, but is it really going to do anything for him either way? Is someone gonna look at the box-office figures and be like "Wow, I bet this movie made one hundred million dollars because people must love seeing Neil Patrick Harris's bemusement at grotesque CGI creations. We got a live one here, boys!"
