In some markets weekend drops are terrible but summer midweek grosses are huge.
Look at UK for example
23.753.171 Fri-Sun
11.995.409 Mon-Thur
8.523.417 Fri-Sun

more people go to the movies during the week also it should hit 900 million today
HP8 TUE: $6.5M/$286.5M domestic; $17.9M/$595.5M intl. $882M global. Will break $600M intl & $900M global today. It looks like it should pass a billion on Sunday and then will pass Pirates by next weekend.

Its weekdays are really huge, and evening out with weekends which is great. And WOW for that $900m WW number so soon, if it manages to hold well this weekend then there is a chance for $1b OS total itself which I don't think will happen, but you never know what 3D could do to its legs in OS markets.

It will be close for that, this weekend TF3 is also reaching $1b, though it is not likely but Potter can still end up being #8 after this weekend and the 10th movie for $1b :P

I'm thinking good goals would be...

Dom = 380M #12 if it beats Episode 3.
OS = 850M #3 all time
WW = 1.23B #3 all time

could even do more OS, but it seems to be dropping pretty hard.

I still think it can get closer to $900m than $850m.

Depending on this weekend it could go either way, for now I see a 50% drop for $60m weekend and about $715m OS total. The holds aren't as good but $850m OS seems to be guaranteed now, it still has China to open so I think there is a good chance for $900m OS now. The weekdays are really big which is helping it a lot.

It also has Indonesia which should bring in around $5m.

It's not really that bad of a drop though considering the weekend it opened it was still school holidays. It's 2nd weekend was only -58% with kids back at school

Ok, so I didn't know it still had to open in China and Indonesia. Here are my updated goal numbers...

Dom = 380M
OS = 920M (I realize this is now maybe a bit high, but it will need it for 1.3B WW, as I don't see it going much past 380M in the US)
WW = 1.3B

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2' Hits $1 Billion in Global Box Office

While hardly a surprise this is the first confirmation I have heard from any website. It should reach that mark on Saturday, here's what THR says

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/h ... ion-217349
Quote:
It's the first in the franchise to pass the milestone, doing so only two weeks after its release.

In a fitting farewell to one of the most magical film series in Hollywood history, Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is the first film in the franchise to reach the $1 billion mark worldwide.

Deathly Hallows 2 will cross the milestone on Saturday, having grossed $296 million domestically and $630 million overseas through Thursday for a global total of $926 million. Another blockbuster weekend at the multiplex is forecast, allowing the film to easily pass the vaunted $1 billion mark.

The movie, benefiting from being released in 3D, is racing past the milestone in about two weeks, a remarkable achievement. Until now, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone overseas) was the top grossing pic in the franchise, having grossed $974.8 million globally in 2001-02.

The Harry Potter franchise has always been immensely successful internationally, with every title in the series earning substantially more offshore. So far, 68 percent of Deathly Hallows Part 2’s gross has been earned at the international box office, fueled by standout performances in the U.K., Japan, Australia and Germany.

By the end of this weekend, Deathly Hallows Part 2 should surpass Sorcerer’s Stone's domestic gross of $317 million, the best in the series. It also will have surpassed the $659 million earned last year internationally by Deathly Hallows Part 1.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 becomes the 9th movie in history to gross north of $1 billion worldwide, a club that includes Warners’ The Dark Knight ($1 billion), Disney’s Alice in Wonderland ($1.02 billion) and Disney’s 2011 summer tentpole Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($1.03 billion).

Only one film has ever grossed north of $2 billion, and that’s James Cameron’s Avatar ($2.8 billion).

It's only a projection and it's completely useless. With 73.5 mln to go by Friday it can't gross so much in just 2 days.

With Thursday and Friday (estimated) numbers it made $42m and need another $52m for crossing $1b mark. Currently at #12, though it is $10.5m ahead of TF3's Thursday numbers (so technically still #13). Should be able to cross TF3 this weekend when $1b is a lock.

I think $1.3 billion worldwide seems very possible now.
