 Waking Life
Waking Life Quote: Waking Life is an American live-action rotoscoped film, directed by Richard Linklater and released in 2001. The entire film was shot using digital video and then a team of artists using computers drew stylized lines and colors over each frame.
The film focuses on the nature of dreams and consciousness. The title, Waking Life, is a reference to the philosopher George Santayana's maxim: "Sanity is a madness put to good uses; waking life is a dream controlled."

Done in the same style as Scanner Waking Life is for me a pretty entertaining if dis-jointed movie. Probably best watched while smoking a joint its nothing if not interesting.

C-, a super tedious, exhausting borefest that is like a compiliation of several boring professor lectures.

 Re: Waking Life
There are some movies that manage to be wildly entertaining, and for that I commend them. Then there are those movies that work My vote for the most intellectually stimulating movie of the last decade goes to Richard Linklater's brilliant Waking Life. What begins as a random sequence of intellectuals, crack pots, lovers and philosophers spouting off their ideas slowly seems to turn into a movie about lucid dreaming. The plot thickens when the protagonist realises all the people he's been listening to couldn't possibly be talking about ideas he's made up and that he may be in a much larger state of consciousness. Is it a connection to the global consciousness of the world? Is he dead? Perhaps both, or neither, but what makes Waking Life a wonderful film is the collaborative spirit that was used in creating the film. Over twenty different animators each worked on different segments of the film, giving sequences their own distinct visual ideas. Moreover, the dialogue in the film is far more thoughtful than what you'll here in the vast majority of cinema, in large part because Linklater, like his protagonist, isn't afraid to share his vision with other brilliant minds.
A+
