I feel the merchandising aspect of Cars plus the TS3 sequel good will gives this sequel the edge to take the #1 spot.

KFP's mass appeal and WOM makes it similar to Shrek as Casey said, so that should help ensure it is no worse than #2, and I could easily see it taking #1. I kind of hope it does personally.

Pirates is facing a major uphill battle overcoming 3's WOM. The Exchange of filmmakers can hurt the public perception, but the new additions and a concrete and exciting hook should make up for that, but it'll take too much time to regain audience. It may not be as bad as with Shrek yet Shrek points the way toward this falling short of expectations.

Pirates will have the biggest opening among the three, while Cars 2 will probably have the best reviews, but IMO KFP2 has the best release date, and I feel the audience will respond to its trailer the most. I think Panda wins.

Cars 2 will also, however, benefit the most from summer weekdays. Pirates will face absolutely humongous competition with The Hangover: Part II and Kung Fu Panda 2 likely making close to $200 million over the 4-day weekend (which will be Pirates' second weekend).

Yeah, I don't expect Pirates 4 to have much leg; its situation is similar to what Shrek 3 had to face, and that franchise was less frontloaded to begin with.

It will be close and fascinating to watch. Each have pros and cons associated with them.

I'd say they will all be within $30m of each other (ie. $275-$305m)

Though I totally overpredicted the two released so far, I am now quite confident that my pick of Cars 2 as the biggest one of them will be correct. The merchandise for the first film and the DVD sales were just absolutely HUGE and Pixar is coming of SO MUCH goodwill after WALL-E, Up and Toy Story 3.

No way this does below $260 million, IMO (and that should be enough to stay well ahead of Pirates and KFP2).

Actually, that's not just possible but also very likely.

Cars 2 will surely win this now....surprising how both Pirates and Cars will end up at the lower end of their predictions

So, umm...is there an off-chance that Pirates 4 will still win this? Heh. I mean it is not likely as the CinemaScore of A- suggests good reception and it'll likely still make its way to $240 million....but Pirates seems to be back in the game.

Cars 2 does not have much competition ahead though I am sure TF3 and HP will not help its legs. As of now I still see Cars 2 making $250m with 3.7 multiplier, though next weekend will be more telling about its legs.

Pirates 4 has a 50/50 chance at pulling this off afterall.

It'll win against the other two. Which is IIRC the poll's question.

And now go and review films starting with an "I".

Actually, there's a good chance Pirates 4 could outgross Cars 2 in the end. Like Corpse said, it's 50/50.

What a fuckin' disappointment this thread is.

Although Pirates is exactly where I pegged it, Cars and KFP are gonna be 100m+ below my predictions.

Summer of shit this is.
