Beatty returns to film, will play Howard Hughes
http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/20 ... oject.htmlQuote: Christopher Nolan can't be a happy camper right now. The director has long wanted to make the Howard Hughes biopic he shelved when Martin Scorsese began prepping The Aviator, and as Vulture told you, Nolan had hoped to circle back to it after he finished shooting The Dark Knight Rises. Now, he's about to be beaten to the punch again, since Deadline is reporting that Warren Beatty's mysterious fall project is another Howard Hughes movie, this one about his late-life affair with a younger woman. The site says that Beatty is hoping to cast actors including Jack Nicholson, Annette Bening, Andrew Garfield, Rooney Mara, Shia LaBeouf, and Alec Baldwin, the latter of whom has plenty of experience in Hughes biopics after co-starring in The Aviator.

Re: Beatty returns to film, will play Howard Hughes
It'll be interesting to see if Beatty still has "it," both in front of the camera and behind it. Been 13 years since Bulworth. The material sounds compelling enough. Could be a nice unofficial companion piece to The Aviator. All those people who hated how Woody Allen kept casting himself against young hotties well into his sixties should love this. Beatty/Mara 4ever!

Yeah would be good if he has another great film in him. I'd rather Nolan do something else anyway, so this is promising.

His last film was the putrid and infamous Town & Country, so I certainly welcome this.

Re: Beatty returns to film, will play Howard Hughes
I can see what Magnus means. For one, there's a whole generation of moviegoers now who have almost no clue who Beatty is. What do Heaven Can Wait and Reds mean to the average 16-year-old? Nothing.
I also get the impression Beatty is much more beloved in Hollywood than elsewhere in America. His well-known politics may be a part of this.
He hasn't been a viable, visible box office presence in 20 years (Dick Tracy and Bugsy came out in 1990 and '91).
So he is Hollywood royalty, but I wouldn't expect this return to be met with huge amounts of enthusiasm outside certain circles. (I'm excited, though.)

It's similar to how people in the industry lose their shit over his wife, but you would never hear a middle-aged woman in flyover country say her favorite actresses are Sandra Bullock, Reese Witherspoon, Meryl Streep, and...Annette Bening.

Oh, and Beatty hasn't had "it" since Reds, which was 30 years ago. yup

That's implying only people under the age of 30 matter, which is positively rage-inducing.
