 Re: Production Budgets
Magnus Prime wrote: Wow, very good budgets for both, espically KFP2. Animated sequels can have over-the-top budgets. Well $150m might be a set budget for DW sequels. According to BOM, both Shrek 2 and Madagascar 2 had the same budget. Also DW doesn't tend to improve animation style on their sequels. Only marginal improvements, so that might shave off some production cost as they have most of the software work done already I guess. Pixar has higher budgets because they always tend to innovate and do some "additional" steps forward which pumps up the cost of their movies.

 Re: Production Budgets
That's really good budget for TH2, it will start making money by the end of its 5-day weekend. Good for KFP2 as well they should easily make that money, it is going to be really big WW.

 Re: Production Budgets
Maybe you should edit that. It's 160m BEFORE tax credits. After tax credits the movie is $125m.

 Re: Production Budgets
Even $160 million sounds normal for a film like this.
I am really wondering about Transformers 3's budget. The second one was $200 million, but I assume Bay and Shia were paid even more this time around and the trailer promises some huge scale money shots. Can't see this being below $250 million.

Not to mention it was shot in 3D, which adds quite a bit to the budget.

 Re: Production Budgets
So basically both publications are shooting numbers from their asses.
I have even read some sites mentioning 125m budget. Though that is most likely AFTER tax credits.

So the studio pays Depp 55 million, and he gives them 1 billion in return (Or 500 million, because they have to share the money with theaters, retailers, etc). That sounds like a pretty fucking good deal for the studio. It's in no way "too much", or unfair, or whatever. This.

 Re: Production Budgets
$125-$160m sounds good for X-Men. There is a lot of action in the movie and it is sure to make this budget, so a good number.

 Re: Production Budgets
Quote: While the film -- budgeted at $135 million after rebates -- could easily be considered a reboot for a property which hasn't had a new sequel in five years, it would be more accurately described as a prequel. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118037977?refCatId=13There you go. Pretty much what I expected after the rebates for X-men:FC.

 Re: Production Budgets
Very good budget for such a film. It'll definitely make it back and then some.

Green Lantern (making and marketing) - $300m Quote: “Green Lantern” cost an estimated $300 million to make and market — on par with similar moves but still expensive http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/12/movie ... ted=1&_r=1That number seems to be the worldwide marketing number...still quite expensive

 Re: Production Budgets
Reminds me of when Fox has marketed the hell out of Fantastic Four pretty much everywhere. It paid off to them.

 Re: Production Budgets
Eh, I'll give you the first argument, but 2005 was already a bit past the saturation point.

 Re: Production Budgets
Green Lantern will be big in OS markets...the marketing has been good and somehow CGI action films do better there

I'm expecting a Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer performance out of Green Lantern at this point.

 Re: Production Budgets
AND 125m worldwide marketing budget. For, Ryan Reynold's sake, I hope it break evens. He shouldn't have been GL in the first place. Should have gone with Deadpool. He is perfect for that character.

 Re: Production Budgets
Hmm so the states side budget is still quite high for Green Lantern, I am surely surprised with that number....this is so looking like this years Prince of Persia, it might do a tad better being in 3D and superhero genre tends to have better openings.
