Goldsheet wrote: Alot of critics seem to be writing it's the same movie again in a differnet location. I tend to think that's what alot of the fans of the original are hoping for. I would hardly think that will impact OW. Also, WOM could be better than what we are reading on rottentomatoes if that formula still works in Thailand. I totally agree that any bad reviews will have little to no impact on OW numbers. People will still go see it.

 Re: May 26-30 Predictions
The film's distributor, Warner Bros., is estimating that the sequel will gross between $90 million and $100 million over the five-day holiday period. But tracking on the movie is so strong that others in Hollywood who have seen pre-release audience surveys think it will bow with well over $100 million, with estimates ranging from $125 million to as much as $160 million in the U.S. and Canada. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/

 Re: May 26-30 Predictions
The first was an absolute monster on DVD/Blu-Ray, so the potential for something so monstrous is certainly there... But 160mil would be a bigger 5-day total than any Potter film....

 Re: May 26-30 Predictions
My initial prediction was 153.1 Million. Maybe I should have stuck with that.

 Re: May 26-30 Predictions
Another article touting that Hangover might beat the Matrix Reloaded's OW record... I would seriously do a dance of joy if that happened.

 Re: May 26-30 Predictions
There are numerous articles suggesting a relatively soft opening for Panda, but I'm going with my gut on this one.

 Re: May 26-30 Predictions
"As of 4 p.m. PT, Fandango.com is reporting that The Hangover Part II is responsible for a dominant 82% of daily sales." That is fucking HUGE. And I agree with you Rolling Thunder, I do think tracking is going to be way off on Panda and could get into 9 digit territory.

 Re: May 26-30 Predictions
Hangover Betting Lines from Interloops
110 or less = 4-1
110 - 125 = 2.5 - 1
125 - 140 = 2.5 to 1
140 or more = 3.25 to 1
According to this 125 is the favorite

 Re: May 26-30 Predictions
I like those numbers from BO and while I don't see TH2 being that big over Friday-Monday, I see KFP2 to do very close to what they are predicting

 Re: May 26-30 Predictions
Im surprised by those predictions, especially Scotties. Its been obvious for some time HGVR2 would be bigger than Panda and much larger than predicted.

 Re: May 26-30 Predictions
Goldsheet wrote: wow - stepping out there on hangover By the way my predictions for Kung Fu Panda(78.7M), and the Hangover (73.7M), were for May 27- 30 (4- day) and did not include opening day numbers for both. My 5-day Predictions were 91.9M for Kung Fu Panda 2, and 102.1M for The Hangover Part 2. I was thinking the MTC tracking numbers for both movies were a little off, like they are sometimes are. For me the strong tracking for Hangover was only indicating it would have a very strong opening day, and that it would drop off over the first five days similar to what Sex in the City 2 (by the way tracking was over estimating Sex in the City 2, if I recalled right last year), did over Memorial Weekend last year, but with about double the box office total of Sex in the City 2 over the same amount of time. It looks now I was wrong about The Hangover after see the that friday drop was much smaller than Sex in the City 2 had last year. As for Kung Fu Panda, I thought tracking was just under estimating a movie for kids, like they sometimes do, also being that opening day was a school day, I was expecting opening day for Kung Fu Panda 2 to be less than half of The Hangover Part 2 opening day, but what surprised me that Kung Fu Panda 2 day opening was less than 20% of The Hangover's opening day. My predictions were base on The Hangover having a strong Thursday & Friday and Kung Fu Panda having a strong Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
