Post MARVEL'S "The AVENGERS" In 3D Will DESTROY TDKR At The B.O
Yes, that does seem like a random number to come up with, but since TDK made 533 Million Domestically, I'm saying The AVENGERS will beat it, even with the 3D aspect to, plus it is truly the 1st of it's kind showcasing all these superheroes on 1 screen.. The marketing is strong obviously with hints in current MARVEL movies and the upcoming THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA.. I just can't imagine this not making a boatload of $$$$$$$$ Who's in??? :-k

Original Iron Man made 318.5m in 2008. Four years of base inflation (i.e. inflation on just average non-3D tickets, so at 3% a year) and we're at like 358.5m. Now add in 3D effect.

Let's say 75% of gross is in 3D/IMAX, and that average 3D/IMAX boost is at 30% (not all 3D tickets are 30% higher than normal, but IMAX tickets are so). So...

358.5m * .75 * 1.3 = 349.5m + .25 * 358.5m = 439m.

At ABSOLUTE MAX, I see a 10% increase in admissions from Avengers to Iron Man, which puts it MAXIMUM total at 483m.

So in short, this club is going to fail.

If this club was da Justice League, you'd be in like fucking Flynn. Admit it!

You know?? No one knew AVATAR would gross the amount of $$$ it did domestically and you could've very well applied this so called "detailed analysis" to that movie and failed just as well.. Would you not agree with that??? :nope: There's always a chance since this movie is a 1st of it's kind much like how original AVATAR was coming out of the gate.. Moviegoers are going to flock to this in droves and you know it..

BKB can you please pass you OW numbers for this ? Or you are expecting monster legs ? As of now I don't see any. To cross or even come close to TDK this needs a much needed hype or probably they can spread the rumor that Robert Downey Jr. died so that people will flock on this. Since none of these are going to happen I don't see this club passing.

The argument of Avatar does apply, still Avatar was "considerably original" and had JC's direction (NOT ATTACHMENT) after coming back from Titanic helped the movie a lot. These were pretty big factors in Avatar's success. The target demo for this movie are mostly the action seekers and though the ensemble could be great I don't see the movie reaching the expected heights.

OW For The AVENGERS: 150 Million and it will have monster legs and enough to even hurt BATMAN 3 when it comes out 2 months later simply because BATMAN 3 will suffer the same fate as SPIDERMAN 3 did with the backlash of overabundance of villains you all complained about SPIDERMAN 3 having..

200 m. You can't put so many heroes on stage and not mess the things up. The audience will be confused.

I agree with Magnus' analysis. Which also means that this club isnt ridiculous as $480m isnt far off BKB's number. I'd join if its a $480m club.

I predict that The Dark Knight Rises, Monsters Inc 2, and The Hobbit will be the top 3 highest grossing films of 2012, now I don´t see The Avangers crossing the 350m

Just like Shrek and Iron Man wouldn't decrease over the first gross-wise. This has every chance of making sub 300m and even sub 250m.

Lock is definitely a word used unnecessarily. It is too far for that prediction. You never know if the marketing sucks and would people be as interested in this one. 3D effect on grosses will definitely wear off after another year...so about 2 weeks of 3D would not really add huge numbers.

350m is not a lock but still likely (and not even highly likely)

It's highly likely and then some.. We can beat this issue into the ground, but the end result is that it's the 1st of it's kind and if it's anything like the animated movies, then it'll be something to see..

I'd go....

1. The Hobbit - $510m
2. The Dark Knight Rises - $505m
3. The Avengers - $407m
4. Monsters Inc 2 - $350m

Why do you automatically put TDKR before an original never before seen superhero teamup like The AVENGERS?? Help me to understand that one because most 3rd movies in a franchise don't do near as well and unless there's a death in the cast of TDKR, don't count on it, plus Nolans lame villain lineup isn't anything to write home about either as though an average moviegoer is going to know who the fuck BANE is much less this Hugo Strange.. You all are really underestimating The AVENGERS and all because you folks don't like MARVEL'S marketing of it..

Again, why do you folks think a 3rd movie in a franchise like TDKR is going to make more than the previous movie and without controversy surrounding an actors death that will be missed in a 3rd movie??? I realize you folks are Nolan ball suckers but come on.. No 3rd movie ever in a franchise has made more than it's predecessors so why would TDKR be any different???

They were continuing story lines whereas TDKR won't feature the JOKER much less even more popular villains like The RIDDLER or even The PENGUIN and instead feature 3rd tier type of villains no one gives a shit about or even knows unless your a comicbook fan and know who characters like Hugo Strange or BANE are and most people don't.. That in itself is a strike against the film making more than TDK, plus Anne Hathaway is not villain material even as CATWOMAN..

The Avengers will be a huge it, it will do over 350m+ domestic, however TDKR will beat the film badly and there is know way to spin it.

Avengers could also be beat domestically by Hobbit, Monsters INC 2 and Star Trek

I would love Avengers to beat out TDKR but its not that likely unless Avengers hits its ceiling (ie. $480/$500m) and TDKR is a letdown and the Ledger effect was indeed as big as you claim. Then its quite feasible that Avengers wins the showdown, but at this point no so likely.

On a side note without creating another thread over it: The AVENGERS movie is actually now titled MARVELS "The AVENGERS" with the cool S.H.I.E.L.D Logo for the production pic.. Only thing I can think of for the title is that the property is exclusive of MARVEL Studios and they don't want to take a chance at another studio acquiring the rights.. Either that, or they want to make absolute certain moviegoers don't equate this with the 1998 movie of the same title starring Uma Thurman and Sean Connery like some sort of reboot... Can't say I blame them there for that.. That movie was a disaster..
