The Emperor's New Groove

Quote:
The Emperor's New Groove is a 2000 American animated film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures through Buena Vista Distribution on December 15, 2000. It is the 40th animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics. The title refers to the Danish fairy tale The Emperor's New Clothes by Hans Christian Andersen, though the two have little else in common. A comedy produced by Randy Fullmer and directed by Mark Dindal, The Emperor's New Groove was altered significantly over six years of development and production from its original concept as a more traditional Disney musical entitled Kingdom of the Sun, to have been directed by Dindal and Roger Allers (co-director of The Lion King).

The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Song for "My Funny Friend and Me" performed by Sting, but lost against "Things Have Changed" by Bob Dylan from Wonder Boys.

A direct-to-video sequel, Kronk's New Groove, was released in December 2005, followed by an animated television series, The Emperor's New School, in January 2006.

One of the most underrated movies EVER! So much potential to be a hit but at least it's a cult film. SO FUNNY!

9.6/10

My daughter had the video for a long time before I finally watched it with her one day. It may be the most underrated movie Disney has ever done. I think it has the best voice work of any Disney movie. It deserves to be a classic. I rate it an A-.

This reminds of Spongebob's brilliant stupidness, but without a blissfully unaware idiot. The randomness and characters of New Groove are outstanding. I HATE John Goodman, but in this movie he was OK. The squirrel language and Kronk is the best part of this movie. Kronk's voice is a classic (the name escapes me) and I guess he is the blissfully unaware idiot of this movie. Every stupid movie needs an idiot.

The movie is brilliant. Totally underrated. Totally underappreciated, and one of the better animated movies ever.

A prime candidate for my favorite film of all-time.

Not that I think it's technically the greatest film ever made or it's some sort of technical marvel, but it just surprised the crap out of me when I saw it (that being about four years ago), and I've had the softest spot for it ever since.

I've seen 'better' films, and a couple other films have probably made me laugh just as much, but none have I purely enjoyed as much as this one.

I don't really give out the A+, but if I were to give it to a film, this would be it.

So...

A+! To the max.

The last good Disney cartoon...

Great absurd sense of humor, and the voice work as already mentioned (+David Spade's deadpan smarmy cynicism) is outstanding.

5 out of 5.

One of the funniest animated films period. And one of the better disney films, and the last GREAT 2-d, traditionally drawn film. Emperors New Groove is one terrific movie. The randomness of the jokes, the cockyness of the Llama, the ignorance of Kronk, and the crooked humor of that one old lady all meshes so well together. Although the story, for the most part, is predictable, it does make up for it in its brilliant humor.

Grade: A-

P.S. I watched this movie over and over(40-50 times) on DVD when I was young.

Gawd, I still LMAO thinking about that one scene where Kronk pulls the wrong lever that Yzma ordered, and she falls to the pit, and comes back all wet carrying an alligator. Brilliant.

A manic joyride, very unusual for a Disney animated film.

One of the last great Disney films. Manic and absurd it somehow all works perfectly in the end. The animation is a step down from their previous works, but still everything works together.

And then Kuzco does it.

"Okay, why does she even have that lever?"

It's actually funny, which is something I can't say about 90% of Disney films I've seen.

And, Kronk is one of the best animated characters of all time.

Best animated movie Disney have ever made, yes you're reading that correct.

Razor sharp wit and masses of demented slapstick make this an instant classic, even those pieces of Disney movies I loath like the singing and the whole you learned a lesson on the journey bullcrap are bearable in this.

If God exists he's a cruel bastard for not making this a massive financial success.
