I think RIO deserves its own INTL thread...

1st weekend: $54.9m
2nd weekend: $53m - $128m total

Wow, it just missed 100m...Amazing. Not sure but is that 93m including domestic total as well? The article doesn't seem to be very clear. But even including the 40m, it would mean another 53m OS which would be great for it. With a long weekend coming everywhere this will definitely hold better next weekend. 500m WW total is a given and this might even have a sneak at 550m.

Hollywood is in the process of shifting its focus to the international market, at least for their bid-budget products.

Before, 50/50 used to be the average for domestic/OS breakdown. It seems like the average is now closer to 40/60, and in a few years from now may be 33/67. If you have a 100m+ budget film, you're more concerned now on whether it sells overseas than whether it sells domestically.

You can see the shift in the release dates, RIO and THOR open internationally a week before domestic...

^ Agreed all the big budgeted movies are now concentrating on OS markets. Though not only that studios are now gaining more money from smaller budgeted movies by releasing them lesser time (in domestic and/or OS) and bringing out DVD's faster Worldwide.

This could be the way movies go ahead with admissions decreasing every year.

BOM had it at 79.7m OS till Apr 14th. Just adding 53m to that would mean $132.7m total...anyways let's wait for final numbers to come out.

The numbers are all over for this but the totals are almost the same. THR for instance has already updated the numbers 4 times...starting with $53m, then $53.9, then $55.9 and now $56.3 (total of 131.8) all in the same article....I guess the movie being released in so many markets does affects these numbers.

BOM also updated in 2-3 times that I noticed. Anyways now BOM had the weekend at $55.4 even though the total they say is 131.9 (they started with a little bit more from last week).

BOM also has Monday and Tuesday OS number for it. $144,354,400 is the new OS number for a WW total well past 190m $191,029,775. This will very close to 200m OS by end of this weekend, which will be helped by Easter.....and I expect another 100m yet from Domestic market, that makes it already at 300m WW total....this is turning out to be a huge success for Fox.

I wonder why that is. Do you think it's the strength of Sky Communications?

It's preforming really well OS. Expecting another soft drop this weekend.

Looking at 300M+ OS and 140M domestic. Great WW total for Fox.

ARGENTINA - Weekend 2

Looks like its going to be Kung Fu Panda 2 vs. Tangled vs. Rio for the yearly animation crown. No surprises why Rio's doing so well in the S.American countries like Argentina.

Rio opened with what could be the 14th largest opening weekend of all-time and was not far behind Tangled's $1.62m. It's tracking pretty much the same into the 2nd week as well. Tangled is still charting into its 14th week and has already amassed $8.3m. Rio looks locked for at least $6m at this rate.

1 - Rio - $1,508,115 (104)

Shrek 4 - $6,585,180 ($2,238,614, -21.9%)
Toy Story 3 - $5,690,950 ($1,719,361, -32%)

BOLIVIA - Weekend 2

Also going gangbusters here in Bolivia. Rio had the 4th largest opening of all-time and the largest for the year, beating Tangled's $177,210.

It's 2nd weekend is simply superb, 3rd only to Avatar and Toy Story 3 in the post-Titanic era. Both Avatar and TS3 are $1.1m+ pics, so Rio looks poised to join the $1m club.

Nearly 300m worldwide.

Blue Sky sure knows how to do gangbusters.

I wish their animation team would be better though as with tax breaks and all I'm sure they could come closer to Rango-animation.

I thought this will decrease a little more after being out for 2 weeks in OS. That is a very good hold from last weekend, Rio is also doing great on weekdays. It should easily make 400m WW now. I think there is a potential to cross 450m as well.

While FF5 fanboys are all over the place Rio keeps on making solid business both OS and Domestically. The current OS total is $227,190,676 by Apr 27 (Wed). By end of this weekend its OS total will take over the highest grossing WW total this year which was Rango at 237m

Another impressive hold with $31.5m for an OS total of $260.7m making the WW total as $364.3m This being the sole kids movie till KFP2 (maybe with a small exception of Pirates) should continue holding well in the coming weekends. It should be at 400m WW by next weekend, so a 450m WW is looking good at this time.

Good run in OS markets...only if it could have held better in domestic market this had a potential to reach 500m WW total. Even though this will end up with 450m WW now

$324,200,000 overseas as of now.

South Korea and Japan are still ahead. I think $350+ million overseas is still manageable. If nt for the average domestic performance, I'm sure a sequel would already have been announced.

With good holds from both domestic and Overseas considering the competition, it is now at $326.6m OS total, if I remember correct Japan is still ahead.

It also cracked into Top 100 WW list with $494.6m total at #99, it's OS is very similar to last year's surprising OS run of Clash of the Titans.

It will do nothing in Japan. Blue Sky Studio's animated movies are not popular in Japan AT ALL.

It will do nothing comparatively in Japan...but still the market is big enough to push it past $500m WW mark. I see it finishing with about $510m WW total now
