I don't think you disliking the movie is enough to make it impossible magnus.

Re: Most possible HUGE upset at the Oscars this year?
So, um, The Social Network losing has eight votes in the poll, by far the most.
Now that it has won four Globes (including BP) and four BFCA awards (including BP)...wouldn't the film losing BP at the Oscars be, at this point, even a bigger shock than Brokeback losing? Because unlike Brokeback it does not have a very controversal topic and it is sweeping the critics awards even more than Brokeback, it seems.

Re: Most possible HUGE upset at the Oscars this year?
I cant recall a film winning so many awards, topping so many critics lists, generating strong BO and audience response and still not winning Best Pic. So if TSN would be one of the biggest upsets ever.

Re: Most possible HUGE upset at the Oscars this year?
It's still easier to imagine The Social Network losing Picture than, say, Sorkin losing Adapted Screenplay or Portman or Bening not winning Best Actress.
Inception losing Best Visual Effects might be a better option now, though.

Re: Most possible HUGE upset at the Oscars this year?
Inception losing visual is likeliest of choices.
But Social Network losing could happen as well, with the Brokeback Mountain being a good comparison since it may be another film that the older generation feels threatened by. How many old voters or celebrities in the Academy really use facebook? Compared to all the critics' groups and journalist voters who do writing for living and thus most likely to be heavy Facebook users, I won't be surprised if a lot of Oscar voters are like how Aaron Sorkin and David Fincher were before making the movie and did not have facebook acounts.

Re: Most possible HUGE upset at the Oscars this year?
Inception losing VFX or actually winning 8 Oscars are the only possible ones at this point.

For Inception to win eight Oscars it'd need to get Score, Screenplay, Cinematography, both Sound awards, Visual Effects, Art Direction and Editing. Still possible, I suppose, even if unlikely.

Tron: Legacy should win. It had the year's best effects.

Re: Most possible HUGE upset at the Oscars this year?
At this point, Annette Bening winning Best Actress would be a huge upset.
Toy Story 3 losing to How to Train Your Dragon seems highly unlikely, but not impossible. More possible than Colin Firth losing Best Actor, because it seems more normal for guys who are 'due' to win than the young upstart...
But than again, Adrien Brody won for The Pianist...
Of the list, I could see The Social Network having something of a sweep, but it'll lose at least Best Actor, and likely a few techs to Inception.
If there are any huge upsets, I have a feeling they will be within what is or isn't nominated, not the actual winners.

Neither DDL or Jack were due in 2002/3 though.

I would still vote for The King's Speech losing to The Social Network as the biggest possible upset.

Portman/Benning loosing. I honestly think that there is a chance that it could happen.

We should switch the first option around.

More and more I think True Grit might be able to pull a couple of upsets. Hailey could take best supporting actress imo.

Leo by far has the best award talley this year and Carter has the movie hype, one of those two will get it. This is definitely a more interesting race on the whole than past years have been though.
