Hmm....interesting that seems to be a bit over blown for this movie...JC and all but the actors are not that well known or a big draw....trailer also kind off looks lame for a 30m budget movie.

Underwater shooting is not cheap. I think that budget is pretty great all things considered.

I hope the movie does well overseas. I would assume it has lots of international appeal considering the cast, director, and subject matter.

It won't do well overseas - $20 m max.

The Way Back's international gross is currently 83.1% of it's worldwide total. Considering that it will make less in the United States than Spain alone, I think its fair to say that percentage might go up to 95%... I assume it has different overseas distributors than weaksauce Newmarket...

And I'm very impressed that Sanctum's budget is so (supposedly) low, considering this is James Cameron, Universal, 3D, and often underwater.

Based on this Top Earner list from Vanity Fair, Pattinson, Stewart & Lautner get $12.5m each for each BREAKING DAWN movie - that's $75m just for the three main actors...

Seems like Hawaii is costly shooting spot, anyways JGWI will still be profitable venture in the end, so ok number

Eagle did well in maintaining budget. Should be profitable as well.

WOW for Never say Never. I never expected is too be huge but still 13m? they could have done it in 5m-8m. Anyways it is going to be a huge success on the OD itself so that's good investment

I thought Sandler was one of the producers as well. I mean Happy Madison is his company in the first place, thus I thought why add that money to the budget :P

Wow for #4. That looks more expensive than 59m good job marketing.

Usual numbers for the other two and as expected they should come out fine.

All 3 will be money makers for sure

Good for Unknown, too. Often these adult-aimed thrillers just cost too much (75 mil. or more) vs. what they bring in.

Eh, F/X look cheap IMO.

But these kinds of films (Jumper, Percy Jackson, etc.) tend to have budgets north of 75m so having under 60m is impressive.

Like, if you know you're going to make a crappy mindless action film, I think it's always best to go on the cheap side. Yeah, if they spent 25m more on it the film would have looked better but the amount they would have gained would not be worth that 25m. These films just need passable F/X and action shots to draw in the demo they want, and IA4 seems to barley pass the test.

Yep that is what I had the same feeling. I thought the budget would be somewhere of 75m-80m, though never thought it would be huge (it definitely does not look like a blockbuster). Agreed on the extra 25m amount spent, you never know they might never recover that amount if they go for that extra money.

+1

Both Taken and Unknown had same budget (add in inflation :P) which is very good for these kind of movies. If this one manages 80% of the audience Taken did it should be a good moneymaker for WB

I think the cast matters here too. Percy Jackson had Sean Bean, Pierce Brosnan, Rosario Dawson, Uma Thurman.

Jumper had Hayden Christensen coming off Star Wars and Samuel L. Jackson, as well as Diane Lane in a bit part.

Timothy Olyphant is the only "somewhat" star in Number Four.

Also Columbus' and Liman's paychecks were probably bigger than Caruso's.

True. But really, that extra money for that cast is a waste. None really are draws.

Though I think Percy and Jumper will do better than IA4, mainly cause Percy had the book fanbase to support it and Jumper had better marketing/was an easier sell. You put the cast of Jumper in IA4 or vice versa and it wouldn't change anything.

I agree about it being mostly a waste. That was just my explanation as to why the budget is also lower.

I'm not sure Percy Jackson's cast was a COMPLETE waste. A lot of those stars did a great deal of press for the movie, which served to give the impression the film wasn't just for children.

IAN4 FX don't look bad. Or when I last recalled seeing it.

Where's Gnomeo's budget people, want to know if it's really a hit. Development hell for a long time.

Well did expect DA to be more costly. Though it still remains a hit or miss case in domestic markets. I am pretty sure it will make money for the studios in the end but that would mostly be because of OS grosses.

Hall Pass will sure make money though from the OW predictions this could also rely on OS numbers to get money for studios.

Still looking for Gnomeo's budget.

Got a feeling that it is much bigger than one would think, something like 50-75m that's why Disney aren't releasing it.

Your hatred has no bounds.

Ah, but this is the first animated flick that hasn't had a budget since?

Something fishy is up. This was in production hell after all.

It will still make a profit, of course, but not as large as we're all assuming.
