Post 2010: Another Great Year for Documentaries!
2010 was another great year for feature documentaries, imho. While there weren't any huge BO docs to gather the genre a heap of attention like other years, all five of the documentaries I saw in the theatre this year were excellent in their own way.

Babies
Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer
Inside Job
Oceans
Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work

(Note 1: I don't count Exit Through The Gift Shop and Catfish as documentaries since they so obviously contain fictionalized manipulations of "reality". However, they both were very interesting examples of a new hybrid genre that is emerging!)

(Note 2: I would have loved to see more feature documentaries, if only they were more available in theatres. I would have been happy to buy a ticket for: Restrepo, The Tillman Story, Waiting for Superman, Marwencol, etc, etc...)

Babies and Oceans were terrible.

I disagree.

(Mind you - - Oceans was only great, and not up to the stratospheric level of excellence that it's creators' previous documentary Winged Migration achieved.)

I saw 'Restrepo' and 'Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work'. I liked the first, but the latter was actually interesting - and good, Bradley Witherberry.

Oceans was pretty good, in the same quality as Planet Earth

Yeah, I definitely enjoyed Boxing Gym, Ne Change Rien, Sweetgrass and I Wish I Knew. Marwencol was pretty good too.
