Fox passed on the 24: The Movie script...
"Entertainment Weekly is reporting that 20th Century Fox have rejected a script from Billy Ray (State of Play) for the proposed 24 movie that would continue the story of Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer.
"As far as I know, it is in suspended animation," the show's executive producer Howard Gordon said, adding, "There is talk about re-approaching it. I understand (director/producer) Tony Scott is meeting with Kiefer to talk about ideas. People are still talking about it."
Gordon said that he doesn't think Jack's days are over, however. "I was disapppointed [Fox] passed on the script but I'm certainly hopeful that the movie will get made at some point."http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=72970_______________________________________________________________________________

I think they need to get the movie done as soon as possible or its going to go the way of X-files 2.

Re: Fox passed on the 24: The Movie script...
I love 24 to death and I'm looking forward to some more Jack Bauer. However, while I did enjoy Redemption, I don't think that one would work as a theatrical feature and I have a hard time imagining how 24 movie should look, so I am keeping my hopes down. I'm not surprised FOX turned the script down. Obviously it needs to be really good and I'm glad they're thinking about that and not fast tracking anything.

If Tony Scott gets involved I immediately lose any remnant of interest in this franchise

The same studio that produced the Friedman and Seltzer parody movies. The same studio that butchered alot of Marvel comic books with the exception of X-men. The same studio that gave us the awful AVP movies. I can go on. If anything, they probably turned it down because its too gritty and violent

And lets not forget Independence Day, and Die Hard series. If anything Bauer is the predecessor to John McClane. I wouldn't trust 24 with any other studio. Let Tony Scott get the fuck out though. Let the 24 movie be so good that they merge it with Die Hard and McClane and Bauer need to work together.

Let the 24 movie be so good that they merge it with Die Hard and McClane and Bauer need to work together. Like over 25 years ago. I also wasnt protesting the idea about Fox doing a 24 movie but more to do with the statement about Fox wanting the script to be good before greenlighting given their track record for the last decade

Re: Fox passed on the 24: The Movie script...
They've made a lot of very entertaining films over the last 10 years, hell even last year. All studios have had their ups and downs.
The 2nd X-files film was the safest film imaginable, and series hadn't been popular when it left 10 years ago, it was way past its prime. 24 redeemed went out on a high note, and luckily is part of the genre that should have some of the best crossover to film appeal than any other show. You don't have to watch 24 straight hours. Now just 2 would be amazing.
I don't like the idea of just 2 hours though. They did that for the TV movie which was fine. I just feel a 2 hour timeframe wouldn't feel as grand in scope as a Film Debut should be, despite changing the formula.

But it was about time for them to realize that they need to amp up their quality output significantly. I see this as a good sign. Both for 24 The Movie and Fox.

Magnus wrote: Michael A wrote: If Tony Scott gets involved I immediately lose any remnant of interest in this franchise Tony Scott actually would be a good choice for this. His recent films may not be good, but he still can direct fast-pace action sequences which is pretty much what this film will all be about. But 24 doesn't need hyper-kinetic Crank type flourishes and foolish experimentation with lighting and editing. The show was always at its best when it was Bauer beating up a few guys on one level of a business building, and shooting a few on the next. It does not need explosions, air-plane fights, or Tony Scott's awful idea of creating "tension" and "action."

But I did actually mean predecessor, because it takes Bauer usually 24 hours. McClane can do it in 2. McClane will always rule.
