A Long Way Down was a nice read with some pretty funny moments but nothing too memorable.

Just started Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games.

Just finished The Film Club by David Gilmour. It was okay, but certainly a decent read for film fans.

Reading The War for Late Night by Bill Carter. So far so good, although it'd be interesting to know where Carter's sources come from. I hope there's some sort of explanation at the end. There are only so many times you can read a variation of "an NBC insider said" before calling bullshit.

After this I'll either read another Crichton book (I just bought Pirate Latitudes) or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

About to finish 'Pirate Latitudes' by Michael Crichton

I really enjoyed this one, and will re-read it again soon.

I'm currently reading the 5th Dark Tower book 'Wolves of the Calla' and I have my problems getting into it. Very slow so far.

Finished I Love You, Beth Cooper by Larry Doyle recently and now reading Alex Garland's The Beach (which is incredibly better than the film).

Needful Things by Stephen King. I wanted to read It or The Stand, but the used book store had neither. It better not be disappointing or I will discontinue reading.

I think Stephen King still stands as the author of whom I have started most books without finishing them. Can think of at least four. Still keep giving him a chance. Under the Dome was damn good, his best in over ten years.

It is great too.

I nearly stopped reading The Eyes of the Dragon, but did not because that was back in my naive days when I thought I had to finish all books that I started. I considered stopping during Song of Susannah but did not because of the time I had invested in the series.

I learned my lesson with The Wheel of Time which I stopped around book 6 or 7.

Finally finished Wolves of the Calla, which was by far the worst book in the Dark Tower series so far.

Also read the sixth one, Song of Susannah, which was thankfully pretty short and way more entertaining than the terrible terrible fifth one.

Just started with the last one, The Dark Tower, and can't wait to see how the story ends.

A Maze of Death / Philip K. Dick
6/10

While I dug the setting, midway through you can feel that the story loses sense and then Dick goes out and pulls a pretty disappointing twist. While the book certainly raises a few questions worth thinking about it certainly seems that Dick didn't bother much beyond simply just asking those questions and letting them hang there.

Though to be fair he did make a mess out of the story pretty early on with some baffling plots and ideas like plant that pukes jello that turns into a small replica of whatever you want(????) So to be fair the whole thing just needed a deus-ex-machina he pulled on us.

The Dante Club / Matthew Pearl
9/10

I loved the quasi-historic setting of this novel. It gave it the sense of reality while ate the same time you can feel how much fun and fresh ideas Pearl put into the whole Dante thing.

It may start out slow but by the third of the book the pages start turning by themselves. But not only is the whodunnit part great, the whole backdrop of the story (first mulatto officer, the crookedness of the police and the detectives, post-wartime consequences, scholar wars...) is rich and adds a lot to the whole experience while reading.

I was pleased to see that Pearl's following novels have just the same quasi-historic setting and I'll definitely read those too.

VALIS / Philip K. Dick
10/10

This is the book that makes reading an essential thing in one's life. It's almost impossible to retell. You just have to read it. I loved every page of it. I don't even know how to review it. It's definitely unlike any other book I've ever read. Perfection. I'll definitely reread this one at one point later on.
