Post Winnie the Pooh-Bomb?
Opening against the last Harry Potter.

Death.

I predict less than a 5m OW.

If it's good maybe a 25m total.

How stupid can you get?

Good point. Honey I Shrunk The Kids did pretty well against Batman, but that was 20 years ago.

There are more examples like this...
But BATMAN broke the opening weekend record back than while HONEY broke all Disney opening records...

Winnie the Pooh plays VERY young, with no potential to cross over. There will be only minimal crossover between Potter and Pooh. The Tigger Movie opended to 9.4M in 2000, on it's way to a solid 45.5M. This probably won't do that well, but it won't be because of Potter.

But who will take their kids to see Pooh when they may have to take their kids to see Potter?

They would surely prefer going to see Potter and they could just turn on the television for the toddler to watch Pooh.

An excellent point though I would still say there are a lot of teenage girls who like Pooh and his friends. There would be some adults as well who might have grown up with this. This could be good and there is a chance that this will do good. Last year we had New Moon vs. Blind Side both female oriented movies though maybe not the same age still the same demographic. When New Moon took the opening day and some other records Blind Side also broke records for its genre.

I think Pooh will do about 15M OW which should be ok

This will be interesting. Cause unlike all the other Pooh films, this one will be part of the Disney Animated Feature stable (the others were produced by Television Animation), and this one will be more true to the original books, so this may play like a traditionally hand drawn film than other cheap TV animation retread. It should have more elaborate animation which may draw more people beyond the preschool set. I am interesting in seeing what they do with it.

As I said, Lasseter had a hand in this so this likely will be quite good at least.

Here's something I found from a while back...

"Next up was a presentation on the new Winnie the Pooh movie that is in the works:

Lasseter followed that - and a series of gorgeous production stills - with Winnie-the-Pooh, which the studio is bringing back to the big screen in spring of 2011, and which we are assured will not just be for little kids. The writers went through the archives and the books of A.A. Milne and found five stories that had never been filmed, combining the plots of all five into a feature-length story. Burny Mattinson, an animator who's been at Disney for over 50 years and who worked with Walt on the original Pooh films, is working closely with directors Steve Anderson, Clark Spencer and Don Hall."

I'm not sure how wise it is open against a property as mammoth as HP, but it should still do decent numbers. As was said above, Pooh films, Lasseter or not, play very, very young. The type of movie theatres might as well not even show after 7pm.

I believe this specific audience will find the movie and the rest wouldn't have cared anyway.

Given how it has performed in Europe so far, I'm seeing a under-$30m total as well.

It's not wise to open against Potter. Still, I'm predicting a 30 Million total for this. At least close to it. Summer will help.

I don't think opening against Potter is the problem. The real problem is that I don't think kids will really care about a Pooh film. There are plenty of children's adaptations that disappointed and this guaranteed to make the list.

Its pretty much bombing all over. In Mexico is up to $280,000 and it was release 3 weeks ago againts Rio, Hop was already released. It had ZERO marketing. I had no clue it opened.

lol so they've dumped this all over the world.

What the fuck's wrong with them? I know it's not good and seems to only have been made to try revitalize the Pooh merchandise sales but that's pathetic. No marketing? I mean no one wants to see it anyway but still. What was the point of making this movie?

Maybe they'll have some marketing for the US to be their key merchandise maker.

I hope it does well because I think it looks adorable. I can't wait to see it. Reviews are good too.

I do think it's funny that the running time is only 63 minutes though. :P

Like Matty said, It bombed in Mexico, a country that does wonders for animated films, I can totally see this opening to like $3mil. and finish with like $15mil.
