Post Alice in Wonderland (INTL.) - $690,107,812 overseas
Considering this will be our first formidable worldwide blockbuster of 2010 it certainly deserves its own international thread.

It is opening in every major market this weekend, except for:

Japan
China
Brazil
Spain
France
Netherlands

It's entering over 40 markets over the weekend and early results certainly sound good (looking at around 550,000 admissions in Germany).

Tim Burton's biggest movie overseas so far is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which grossed $268,509,687 overseas. Consdering the 3D bonus, inflation and simply Alice's bigger appeal, Alice in Wonderland is a lock to top that.

So, right now I'm thinking around $380-400 million overseas. This weekend should be in the range of $70-90 million, I'd say.

All in all, I think this stands a decent chance at getting to over $700 million worldwide.

it grossed around 3M on wed/thu in italy. That looks like a solid OW(may be double digits over 5-days?).

I think it can go higher 450-500M.

I expect China to be big, definitely bigger than Ice Age 3. The character is among the most well known ones, and the promotion has started in earnest.

I'd go higher than $400 million as well if it weren't for Dragon/Clash in a few weeks.

But that would mean domestic gross would need to be at least $300m? =P

Alice is promoted very well in Poland. Lot of ads on the streets, in newspapers, major websites and TV. Probably biggest campaign since Shrek 3 and it looks like it will have 250k+ adm OW.

All are rough estimations, give or take $50 million : )

Also, as of now (and as of a couple of days now) I do think it has a chance at that in the US. I am just not predicting it.

If the US opening is anything to come by i'm thinking $400m+ overseas is possible. The market is dieing for an interesting blockbuster and this one will tie us through to at least Clash of the Titans.

Domestic = $275m
Overseas = $400m
Worldwide = $675m

With such monstrous opening weekend in the US my predictions are as below

Domestic - 300M
Overseas - 400M
Worldwide - 700M (that would be great even for a 200M-250M movie)

ALICE IN WONDERLAND opens with an estimated $116.3 million domestically---and $210 million worldwide!! Stateside, Tim Burton's 3-D experience is the largest debut outside of the summer and holiday season and the sixth best opener ever.

$93.7M weekend OS from most of major markets is good start but not that brilliant. Looks like it has a chance of $500M OS.

Considering it still has France, China, Japan and Spain ahead, that's a terrific start. With them, it probably would have been a $140+ million OS opening.

Planet of the Apes and Charlie barely saw their overseas box office tallies that much bigger than their domestic grosses. Even with Johnny Depp, I don't expect it to be that much different this time around. So its still a very solid tally.

Here in Germany it is by far the biggest opening of DEPP/BURTON as a duo... (but not individually)

it has brazil left as well. that could be another 5m OW. I think based on what Xia said, china should have HUGE OW. So it would probably have had a 150M OS weekend if it had opened everywhere.

Top market for "Alice" was the U.K. where it generated $16.8 million from 532 screens, the third biggest opening tally for any Disney film released in the territory. In Italy, "Alice" was the second biggest opening of all time (behind 2007's "Spider-Man 3") with $13.9 million drawn from 533 sites for a whopping $26,079 per-screen average.

The Russian opening produced $12.3 million from 655 venues, the biggest opening of any Disney title in the market. Australia contributed $9.2 million from 345 locations while Mexico served up $7.5 million from 662 situations, again the biggest Disney opening in the market.

Quote:
Alice In Wonderland reigned supreme in the international marketplace thanks to an estimated $94m haul from 40 territories in its launch weekend.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International (WDSMPI) sources said the launch from 5,600 theatres generated the biggest sum for any international debut during the winter-spring corridor (January to April), adding that 70% of the result came from 3D locations.

Despite only launching in 60% of the overseas marketplace, this was the second best launch in Disney history behind Pirates Of The Caribbean 3, which took $216m from 102 territories in May 2007. Combined with this weekend’s $116m North American launch the film has amassed more than $210.3m worldwide in its first few days.

Opening top in all its markets, Alice presented director Tim Burton with a career high opening weekend, almost tripling the result of his previous best, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

Looking specifically at the month of March, Alice almost doubled the previous best weekend recorded by any film in the month, overhauling the $48.3m set by 300 in its third weekend back in 2007.

Driving the weekend business was a mighty launch in the UK on $16.8m (£11m) from 532 theatres. This was Disney’s third biggest debut of all time behind Pirates Of The Caribbean 2 (£11.5m) and Pirates Of The Caribbean 3 (£11.3m), and the third biggest non-sequel debut behind Harry Potter 1 and The Simpsons Movie.

The UK launch also gave Burton a career-best result and almost doubled the previous best March opening of £6.4m set by Mr Bean’s Holiday in 2007. 3D screens represented 44% of the total screen count and accounted for 70% of business.

Italy generated $13.9m (€10.2m) from 533 in the biggest Disney debut ever, the second biggest industry launch in history behind Spider-Man 3 in May 2007, the biggest non-sequel debut, and Burton’s biggest launch by far. 3D screens represented 52% of the screen count and earned 78% of revenue.

Russia delivered $12.3m (367m roubles) from 655 theatres for Disney’s biggest launch, the fifth biggest industry debut, and Burton’s best ever opening weekend result. 3D screens represented 54% of the screen count and generated 79% of the box office.

Australia produced $9.2m (AS$10.3m) from 345 in Disney’s third biggest launch behind Pirates Of The Caribbean 3’s AS$12.1m and Pirates Of The Caribbean 2’s AS$11.3m. This was the biggest march launch ever, the fourth biggest non-sequel debut, and easily set a new debut mark for Burton. 3D screens accounted for 43% of the total screens and drew 78% of box office.

In two further results of note, Alice In Wonderland grossed $7.5m (96.6m pesos) in Mexico from 662 for Disney’s biggest ever launch and the fifth biggest industry launch. This was the second biggest non-sequel opening in history behind only Spider-Man in 2002, and set the biggest March debut and a new career high for Burton.

South Korea generated $4.9m (5.6bn KRW) from 397 theatres for Disney’s third biggest launch behind Pirates Of The Caribbean 3 on 10.3KRW and Pirates Of The Caribbean 2 on 6.8bn KRW. The biggest March release was also a career-high for Burton.

Alice In Wonderland is set to roll out in Belgium on March 10, France on March 24, China on March 26, Spain on April 16, Japan on April 17, and Brazil on April 23.

$450+M overseas will happen because it still has 6 major markets to open in.

Very strong openings in the European and English speaking countries, that opening in Italy is massive.

And as expected, not doing as well comparatively in Asia with Korea i'm sure a sign of things to come.

$450m+ for sure. Great start to the year.

Fantasy movies always do well in Europe and English speaking countries. But Percy somewhat disappointed in those markets while asian markets were much better.
