Crash/Ang Lee
Chicago/Roman Polanski
Gladiator/Steven Soderbergh
Shakespeare in Love/Steven Spielberg

They're not that rare anymore. We're due for another one.

But it's much much much much much much much more likely to be Avatar/Kathryn Bigelow than The Hurt Locker/James Cameron.

Post Re: Hurt Locker wins PGA
2004 Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain) / Crash
2002 Roman Polanski (The Pianist) / Chicago
2000 Steven Soderbergh (Traffic) / Gladiator
1999 Steven Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan) / Shakespeare In Love
1989 Oliver Stone (Born On Fourth of July) / Driving Miss Daisy
1981 Warren Beaty (Reds) / Chariots of Fire
1972 Bob Fosse (The Sting) / The Godfather
1967 Mike Nichols (The Graduate) / In the Heat of the Night
1956 George Stevens (Giant) / Around the World In 80 Days
1952 John Ford (The Quiet Man) / The Greatest Show On Earth
1951 George Stevens (A Place in the Sun) / An American In Paris
1949 Joseph L. Mankiewicz (A Letter to Three Wives) / All the King's Men
1948 John Huston (The Treasure of the Sierra Madre) / Hamlet
1940 John Ford (The Grapes of Wrath) / Rebecca
1937 Leo McCarey (The Awful Truth) / The Life of Emile Zola
1936 Frank Capra (Mr. Deeds Goes to Town) / The Great Ziegfeld
1935 John Ford (The Informer) / Mutiny On the Bounty
1931/32 Frank Borzage (Bad Girl) / Grand Hotel
1930/31 Norman Taurog (Skippy) / Cimarron
1928/29 Frank Lloyd (The Divine Lady) / The Broadway Melody
1927/28 Lewis Milestone (Two Arabian Knights) & Frank Borzage (Seventh Heaven) / Wings

These are all of the splits... They were rare in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's, but in 00's it seems like Academy is more keen on splitting. In the last 10 years there have been 4 splits!

Splits were an unusual occurence during the 2000s...before that they were rare. That was more of an exception recently. And I can't see Cameron winning but not Avatar.

No, I meant that I can't see a situation in which Cameron wins, but Avatar loses.

A Cameron win, Avatar loses possibility can occur due to the change to the BP voting process to the elimination method. Imagine the following scenario: Say Cameron with 30% of the votes wins a tight race against Bigelow, with Tarantino not far behind.

But for BP, due to the elimination method, ballots for eliminated films will be redistributed based on whichever higher rankings was given to the final two (say, Avatar and The Hurt Locker).

Thus someone who voted for, say, Tarantino for BD, might have their BP ballot count for The Hurt Locker even though IB was his #1 choice. Up in the Air #1 supporters may also favor The Hurt Locker over Avatar.

How can I rig my locker to play music with a singing card when I open it? I read one a website about someone using a singing birthday card to play the Star Wars theme music whenever they open their locker. Has anyone done this, or can figure out a way to do it? Thank you.

You're better off not doing it, unless you want to wind up crammed into said locker.
