Just like the Best Actress category, I think this one has also four spots that are locked up (Cameron, Bigelow, Tarantino and Reitman) and a shaky fifth spot.

With a DGA nom to boot, Lee Daniels is currently leading the way and since Precious is one of the Top 5 contenders, it's not surprising. However, there's still a chance that someone else will take his place.

Most likely candidates, in my opinion: Clint Eastwood and Neill Blomkamp.

Eastwood is simply a vateran and I basically have him in for the name value. Sure, Invictus hasn't blown anyone away, but it received all around solid reviews and Eastwood scored a Best Director win at the NBR as well as a BD nom at the Globes.

Blomkamp...well, I think District 9's strength keeps rising and the BAFTA Director nom for Blomkamp confirms that.

There are, of course, also the Coens...but A Serious Man keeps getting weaker, IMO.

I think it is time that Clint Eastwood goes down because he is not changing his style except that the stories are really good which I doubt has his contribution.

I think Lee Daniels deserves the nomination even though a win is really close to impossible.

The next one in my list can be Neill Blomkamp as his 5th movie this one seems to be a great improvement. I would love to have Neill as the 5th director but considering how Academy has been lechers for Drama I think so Lee Daniels has a much better chance.
