Well after these many weeks I thought that 3D was not a factor. I mean it can make some more money passing Titanic adjusted. But this looks way more beyond that and repeat viewings and not 3D are a factor of making money anymore. What I feel is that 3D is a factor in making quick money and breaking records but not for the overall amazing run. Why my points ?? Here it goes 1. Marketing because we know that JC went and marketed this every other country himself and there was a sneak preview which made the people realize how amazing this can be 2. WOM is unquestionable here 3. Titanic-JC effect when the entire world trusted JC for Titanic they took a chance again for a good WOM and that is a better factor of it making money Though 3D is un-questionably a factor but not in making tons of money. Avatar has a shot to cross Titanic's unadjusted gross as well Worldwide which shows below Quote: All-time worldwide grosses adjusted for real inflation:
1. $3,429,000,000 Gone With the Wind 2. $2,476,600,000 Titanic 3. $2,108,000,000 Star Wars 4. $1,953,400,000 The Sound of Music (** no re-releases info) 5. $1,924,419,460 Avatar 6. $1,880,700,000 Jaws (** no re-releases info) 7. $1,683,000,000 E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial 8. $1,669,000,000 The Exorcist 9. $1,430,000,000 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (* incl. foreign estimate) 10. $1,368,400,000 Jurassic Park
And after reducing the 3D it will still be #9 position so I guess 3D is not exactly a major factor in making money but breaking records

I've seen this bloody film, and it makes NO sense. Maybe because people like the movie and want to see it many times? Similar situation happend with Titanic... Well i think because it's a 3D movie, people realise that if they don't see it now, they won't get to experience something like this (considering all the buzz) at home. Titanic if you could remember was launched back in the VHS era....took something like 1 year to be released and considering it's long run, the girls wanting their Leo fix or the ladies wanting to cry their hearts out kept seeing it time and time again in cinemas. Similar situation now....where in a twilight period now between HD and 3D (VHS vs. DVD) which is clearly the next step.

Well we should've all known that the powers of Titanic must linger. People definately respond when the words from the directors of "TITANIC" is plastered everywhere...then you have this being the 3D masterpiece.
I've never seen a 3D feature film in my life and part of the reason I was anticipating Avatar was because of it. People are suckers for the next big thing....iPAD anyone?

I have seen a lot of movies in 3D though I still get what you are saying for me it was partly JC and partly 3D. Actually both are paired I gave that extra money trusting JC and the next best 3D thing. Though all of this again suggests a great marketing. So I guess it is all things together that made it a success including a well made plan by the Avatanic Team

 Re: Avatar (INTL.) - $1,917,419,460 Worldwide (#1)
Not sure about great marketing, there's been better marketers around (Roland Emmerich's movies seems to come to mind everytime). Avatar's marketing was purely money...it was everywhere.
I actually thought the trailers were quite lacklustre....though ultimately the buzz got too great...peopel saw the movie and it was definately much better than what the bland trailers made it out to be....soon friends told friends and with it being released int he holiday season, everyone was available to see it. The rest is history.

Indeed, you don't really need one but you want it. LOL, though the only device i have got is an iPOD Nano, really want an iPhone but don't think I want to fork out the money for what i will really only use mainly as a phone.

Oh this is a good read, it's obvious that the weakest thing about Avatar is the storyline. http://www.theage.com.au/news/entertain ... 45785.html

So many of those questions could be easily answered because answers were in the movie.

Complete shit. I think this guy himself clearly didn't pay attention to the film as most of his claims are useless.

But most of these points were either explained in the movie ("they somehow can't track where she goes or determine the location of the portable lab she picks up." - this particular point convinced me we're dealing with a complete idiot as it was perfectly explained) or just far-fetched as if he really wanted to spit in Avatar. I fell sorry for people like this.

 Re: Avatar (INTL.) - $1,917,419,460 Worldwide (#1)
Ok Arch ■Why use avatars if they're not to be kept secret? They were never made to be a secret. It was the easier way to communicate with the Na'vi. ■ If the Na'vi know from the get-go that these ''Dreamwalkers'' are biological shells remotely controlled by humans, why do they trust them?Because Avatar riders are scientist who want to learn about Na'vi and not hurt them. And because Na'vi wanted to learn more about humans too. And they only trusted Grace and later Norm and Jake. ■What is the deal with Eywa? Shortly after Sully (Sam Worthington) and Na'vi girl Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) meet, the seeds of Eywa float down and determine that Sully, despite being human, is pure of heart. Then he tells his commander (Stephen Lang) about how to destroy the sacred Hometree, thus proving Eywa is a lousy judge of character. Yet the Na'vi, knowing all this, stick to their beliefs.Well it's their God that they trust. And in the end Eywa was right about Jake because he saved Pandora and Na'vi from destruction. ■Why is Unobtainium so valuable? It costs 20 milion per kilo. More here - http://james-camerons-avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Unobtanium■Why send in avatar ambassadors to negotiate and ''make friends'' with the Na'vi if you're just going to go ahead and bulldoze their forest anyway? The RDA guy was leading the mission and he wanted to keep the good PR. He could have stopped the attack if Na'vi would agree to move. ■During the Hometree attack, chopper pilot Trudy (Michelle Rodriguez) opts out and flies off. Why doesn't her crew object? Why doesn't anybody give chase? And why doesn't the commander, who has just lectured us about how highly he values loyalty, tear Trudy a new one? This makes her appearance in the brig to free Sully and co implausible.Ok that's the one I don't know the answer ■And when she steals the helicopter, why doesn't anybody chase her?Flying at night was very dangerous and was forbidden by Quaritch. And Jake had Eywa on their side. ■Though central command can tell when she turns the helicopter on, they somehow can't track where she goes or determine the location of the portable lab she picks up.They could tell when she turned the helicopter on because of sound and heat it was producing and because they saw it on cameras. And they put the portable lab near the Tree of Souls. The tree is difficult to find due to its location right at the heart of Pandora's natural flux vortex, caused by strong magnetic and gravitational forces from the floating mountains and the large unobtanium deposit located beneath the formation. ■After Sully is put into his avatar he runs out into the compound, where we see a whole lot of other avatars. What happened to them? They were allowed to stay because they were scientists. And few of the Avatars help Norm and Jake when the RDA personel was leaving Hell's Gate. ■Why does the company maintain no control over the avatar program, even though it owns it?They don't? From what I saw in the movie everything was under control of Quaritch and Selfridge. ■If Dr Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) is so intent on preserving Na'vi culture, why doesn't she tell her boss (Giovanni Ribisi) about the money-printing healing properties of Na'vi medicine? But she does tell him but he is not interested in it, he wants the Unobtainium.

Thanks Mesjarch, this is exactly what I wanted to say. It was kinda funny anyway to see those claims about the "plot holes" in Avatar's storyline, while it's the holes in the guy's head that make him question stuff that was perfectly explained in the film, especially when you remember the exact moments when those points were covered. What a fucking idiot.

 Re: Avatar (INTL.) - $1,917,419,460 Worldwide (#1)
The only strange thing for me was the remote control of the avatar. How did it work? I mean, it worked even in this flux vortex thing.
About Trudy. They were mercenaries. She had a contract. "Screw this. I didn't sign up for this shit!". Probably got some warning with a possible wage cut or something. It's not like they were a national army.
