Em, it's going to add $300m+ over the next week...

And well yeah, this is the jewel in the crown of the global box office, of course it's a big number.

Titanic is like an entity in itself, it has its own gravity, it repels everything that gets close, can avatar actually catch that.

Titanic's performance is of course more impressive simply because it had less big markets. I mean it made next to nothing in Russia, for instance.

Of course it's more impressive. Besides, ticket prices for Titanic were probably 1/3rd, maybe 1/4th of what they are for Avatar in any given market.

According to Finke, it crossed $1B.

So...

$1,000,000,000 down
$842,879,955 to go

I don't really want this to happen. Titanic should stay #1, but whatever.

I do think the film will slow down soon, but it might end up a few hundred million short. But who knows... :(

http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/

And its worldwide box office figure should be $1.05 billion coming out of this weekend.

Avatar will be The Dark Knight of International box office :bat:

I'm not ready to say it'll beat TDK domestic though. Need to see the next two weekends.

40% drop next weekend, a 30%-ish drop during MLK weekend and 40% drops EVERY weekend with very, very poor weekdays would still get it to $525m, and that's not factoring in Oscar buzz, other holiday weekends, IMAX/3D effect, etc.

It will beat TDK. Titanic's the only film left.

Nikki's numbers are based off of real data from movie theaters though.

Common it is not even Sunday and how do you expect Nikki to get all the data even before it is past Sunday in most of the countries WW. There is no possibility that it would have made 120-150M by Saturday to cross that mark.

Read the line again

Data streams in in real time from around the world. If the studios wanted, they could easily tell us how much money Avatar made in, say, Germany between 5pm and 8pm on Sunday. There's obviously enough data to tell that Avatar is well over $1B, but not enough to determine just how much at this point.
