I may give you this decade but, I'm sorry, the 90s was still a formative decade for Wong. He was still unsure whether he was going Godard or Antonioni (with a hint of Bresson) up our collective asses. In terms of body of work that decade, Abbas Kiarostami, Hou Hsiao-hsien and even the late Krzysztof Kieślowski definitely surpassed him. And in terms of singular crowning achievements, Wong was no match to the likes of Pedro Costa, Artur Aristakisyan, Edward Yang, Aleksandr Sokurov and Béla Tarr.

Yes, he reached "master" status this decade - into his own apotheosis in the pantheon of cinema. But he does not remain uncontested. This decade alone, there is David Lynch, Manoel de Oliveira, Hong Sang-soo, Michael Haneke, Jia Zhang-ke, Claire Denis and Apichatpong Weerasethakul.

That'd be pretty stupid. :funny:

Except that's not true if you start the decade at the year 2000. When you say "the 2000s", you are referring to the decade of 2000-2009.

Biggest release of this decade, then. :roll:

It should get the 3rd and 4th weekend records with $10 mil to spare each...

But Titanic gets it the rest of the way.

But this run will be phenomenal to follow, it's just beginning people!

The majority of it will be made in 2009 though, it could be at over 700m WW by December 31.

Ok, it's obvious it's gonna beat ROTK, that's a no-brainer by now.

So, let's raise the stakes...

$642,993,860 DOWN
$ 1,199,886,095 TO GO

And well yeah, this is the jewel in the crown of the global box office, of course it's a big number.

No, it needs $1.12 billion. ROTK is at $1.119 billion. $1.15 billion would beat it.

Yeah, I just forgot to add an extra 1. But from your phrasing, I thought you were predicting $1.15B worldwide total for the film, and thought maybe you meant $1.5B.

Because it'll be much loser to $1.5B.
