I don't get it.. Are his movies that good??

Especially for horror comedy, which, outside of Scary Movie, has had a tough time at the box office. 2 CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS Sony · 2977 · $16,700,000 · $5,610 · $82,392,000 Another nice weekend, even in the face of Toy Story 3D. It'll have a fantastic hold next weekend too. 3 TOY STORY (3D) Walt Disney · 1745 · $12,500,000 · $7,163 · $12,500,000 Great start and shows there is still interest in the story. Disney probably wanted to get a new generation interested and familiar with it before the 3rd installment. 4 THE INVENTION OF LYING Warner Bros. · 2489 · $7,350,000 · $2,953 · $7,350,000 A better start than Ghost Town, ERC has the TC and PTA wrong, it's PTA of over $4,000 is solid. But, it's not going to have a great total. 5 SURROGATES Walt Disney · 2951 · $7,344,000 · $2,489 · $26,387,000 This is not so good. Surrogates cost $80M and has no chance of recouping that after theaters take their cuts. It might not even recoup it before they do worldwide. Flop. 6 WHIP IT · 1720 · $4,850,000 · $2,820 · $4,850,000 Bad start, like someone else said...half of Stick It's opening weekend despite great reviews and a well known cast. Poor Drew Barrymore 7 CAPITOLISM: A LOVE STORY · 962 · $4,850,000 · $5,042 · $5,251,689 Ok start, Michael Moore's appeal is obviously dwindling.. 8 FAME MGM · 3133 · $4,754,000 · $1,517 · $16,634,236 This should have made alot more. Still it only cost $18M and should finish with around $60M worldwide as it's set to make $12-15m alone from the UK after opening at No.1 with 4m. 9 THE INFORMANT Warner Bros. · 2425 · $3,800,000 · $1,567 · $26,580,000 Meh. I'm surprised this made decent money, it looks so damn unappealing to me. 10 LOVE HAPPENS Universal · 1922 · $2,777,290 · $1,445 · $18,910,345 Meh again. I guess it's total will be ok considering the size of release and the budget (18m) 11 TYLER PERRY'S I CAN DO BAD ALL BY MYSELF · 1569 · $2,670,000 · $1,702 · $48,350,000 Nice total for Tyler Perry. Has fallen pretty quickly as usual 12 PANDORUM Overture · 2506 · $1,923,000 · $767 · $7,818,780 Bombs awayyyyyy. Cost $40M and probably won't even cross $20M worldwide. Look for a dvd release in November, hah. Poor Drew Barrymore??? Hell, she can afford to make a flop once in awhile with as much $$$ as she has.. She's not worried.. Another Charlies Angels will wipe that clean..
And PANDORUM really didn't look as bad as it was made out to be.. Not sure what the knee jerk reaction was to that movie anyway other than it was cool to bash on it and if it's because they borrowed from a few other horror movies to make, so be it.. What movie doesn't do that???

Cloudy and Capitalism had some big changes. Both were off by around 10%.

 Re: Weekend Estimates (Now Actuals)
The Hangover passed $275 million!
Can't believe how solid All About Steve's legs are even despite Love Happens and the absolutely awful reviews...
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs will become the fourth $100+ million September release this decade...and might actually end up being the highest of all-them (gotta beat Sweet Home Alabama's $127.2 million).
I'll resume my weekly wrap-up's next weeks...having exams until then.

The Hangover's run is just amazing. It should be able to end its run above the adjusted total of There's Something About Mary ($276,580,423).

 Re: Weekend Estimates (Now Actuals)
I'm seeing the Hangover Wednesday night at my campus' free movie night at the student union. I'm ever so curious to find out if I'll like this breakaway comedy, since the last major breakaway comedy (Wedding Crashers) was something I totally hated (though I'm willing to give it another try, just to see if a couple years of perspective might ease my opinion a bit).
I'm happy to see that Toy Story did so well! This was a brilliant idea on Disney's part. It's really gonna drum up interest for TS3.
