Re: Well...the 2009 Contenders Discussion Thread BIG NEWS
You know what's going to be MESSED up...
They'll announce 9 nominees, and then they'll get to the last one... and say "Up..."
And then that person dies, never revealing if it was Up in the Air, or Up...

Re: Well...the 2009 Contenders Discussion Thread BIG NEWS
Yeah, I know I still have to wait and see what the competition ends up being, but as of now I'm not too keen on predicting Avatar to make the top ten.
Only judging by the trailer, I don't see the film crossing $250m, maybe not even $200m. But we'll see... the finished product and its impact on cinema might put it back into the race.

I am curious if Fox will set up 3D screenings for AMPAS voters, since that's the preferred method of viewing.

Re: Well...the 2009 Contenders Discussion Thread BIG NEWS
Have you changed your mind about going to Avatar Day? You might find another cinema elitist wearing black and pondering if Méliès will ever be topped.
The two of you could get married (where legal), adopt some kids from Belize, and start your own cinematic spin-off of Slow Food.

Re: Well...the 2009 Contenders Discussion Thread
I'm almost tempting to consider The Hurt Locker a lock now, with Shutter Island moved. With 10 BP nominees, I can't see 9 out of 10 all coming out of the last 10 weeks of the year.

Re: Well...the 2009 Contenders Discussion Thread
What does Paramount have left to push for BP? Won't this make The Lovely Bones pretty much a lock as well?
EDIT: duh, forgot about Up In The Air.

The White Ribbon (the Michael Haneke film that won the Palme d'Or) is being released on December 30th. Possible contender?
