And it's going to be distributed by something called Apparition, who have also secured the domestic rights for Bright Star. Has anyone ever heard of them?

District 9 has a 100% RT after 11 reviews with an 8/10 avg score... if it wasn't for Avatar, I would totally start whispering its name 'round these parts. But maybe those who have seen it have a better idea of whether or not it's a film the Academy would open up to at all, since the marketing has been a bit unclear.

Can it invade the techs? Screenplay?

It'll do as well as Casino Royale did. And its a much better film than CR.

Casino Royale has 3 100s total, District 9 has 3 100s with only 5 reviews in.

Turns out Ponyo's reviews are better than originally heard, 90 at MC with 5 100s. Still probably only locks up an animated nom.

Like I said, if it makes $15 million, maybe screenplay. Then again, isn't it loosely adapted?

Post Re: Well...the 2009 Contenders Discussion Thread BIG NEWS
Via EW, Tree of Life has a confirmed release date of December 25th.

If that's not big enough, Peter Weir's Siberian gulag drama The Way Back could get a qualifying run in the winter.

Weir and Malick!? All bets are off people and the Ten BP nominees get completely mixed around.

I guess if you dont know who Peter Weir (5 Oscar noms, 3 BP noms) and Terrence Malick (2 Oscar noms, 1 BP nom) are. Combined, their filmography accounts for 39 Oscar nominations and 6 wins since 1978.

That'd be amazing. It's not going to happen. Maybe, MAYBE, Original Screenplay, and they'd have to campaign for it and have a few contenders shit the bed.

IMO:

Avatar
An Education
The Hurt Locker
Invictus
The Lovely Bones
Nine
A Serious Man
Shutter Island
The Tree of Life
Up in the Air

And the big controversy will be "Up" missing despite the new 10-film rule. ;)
