You guys are saying that Mr. Fantastic Fox WONT get a BP push from Fox Searchlight? That's crazy talk. Even Beowulf got a BP push.

No, I meant it is not getting in. AT ALL.
Not two animated flicks in one year and Up will get in, unless Fox has 100% at RT with 9.5/10 average and a $300 million gross.

Seriously. And Wes Anderson has sucked for how many years now?
They'll most certainly have another pony to get behind.

But they simply don't have other strong contenders so if they pour everything into Amelia despite ten nominees...it mightpay off.
And I do not rule out a third Oscar for Swank. Really...as insane s it sounds.

Piggy Swank received her third Oscar in my dream last night (in a Brett Ratner film)

Fox Searchlight was already in discussions to distribute Slumdog at this point and it would be another couple weeks until the annoucement went public. So yes, last summer there was some discussion of Slumdog being a player. Though certainly not the monster it turned into.

I think we may each have been right about one. Whatever, I'm 95% sure that Fox Searchlight will have a nomination this year (unless Avatar is Fox's only horse. ) I just don't see it being Amelia or The Fantastic Mr. Fox. I love Wes Anderson, even The Darjeeling Limited, and I'm sure he'll get his just desserts one day. Just not for his first stop-motion animation endeavor. Speaking of Focus, I really do wish that Coraline had a shot!

Re: Well...the 2009 Contenders Discussion Thread
Just did a search, the first time Slumdog was ever mentioned on this forum was Sept. 2nd when loyal talked about its buzz growing. I also usually do a thread around this time every year where I dig through imdb's scheduled releases for the year (there's a lot, it includes everything without a release date or distributer or films likely to move, etc.)... Slumdog missed even that radar, though maybe it just wasn't listed or something or I just didn't click on it because I presumed it was some random Indian film that was going to be released in 1 theatre
