Post Pete Docter's follow-up to Up is...Monsters Inc. 2!
"Jim Hill over at "Jim Hill Media" recently unloaded a bunch of stuff that he uncovered at the Licensing Expo, among which was our very first look at the Chipettes from the upcoming ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: THE SQUEAKUEL and news that Pete Docter's post-UP film will be a MONSTERS INC. sequel. Though it's all hush hush at the moment. Hill mentions, "Well, though the buyers who attended these particular preview sessions were first sworn to secrecy by Disney officials, several immediately reached out to me afterwards to say how thrilled they were to learn that Pete Docter will be following up "Up" with a sequel to "Monsters, Inc."

Hmm, will Pixar now sequelize all of its films? And why is there no The Incredibles sequel announced yet?

Monsters, Inc. is my least favorite Pixar film (aside from Cars of course) so I can't say I'm that excited for this.

I loved Monsters Inc, but dont like the trend of Pixar sequels. I like them coming up with new and exciting projects. None of their upcoming slate sound all that promising (though TS3 should be good). And yes, The Incredibles is the only one that should get a sequel. I think Brad Bird is busy on 1906.

Yeah, this ain't necessary. I don't trust John Goodman's health either.

The Only Pixar Sequel that I think Deserves a Sequel besides Toy Story 3 is The Incredibles 2.

Monsters Inc. is among Pixar's best so I'm welcoming the sequel. I'm actually pretty confident at Pixar sequels. At least it seems like they took time to find the best story continuation, unlike most of the other sequels. Also MI2 was rumored along when TS3 and Cars 2 stories emerged. So it's not THAT of a surprise.

Brad Bird needs to get on the ball.

Anyways, out of their other films, Monsters Inc. seems to lend itself most to a sequel, so I'm ok with this.

They still have Newt and The Bear and the Bow coming up anyway.

Maybe Bird's live action film is more expensive than he thought...

I thought the same thing about Toy Story 2, but Pixar has shown that, unlike most sequels, it doesn't just rewrite the first film but actually comes up with a new idea for the same characters.

So I'm willing to give them a chance. And I liked Monsters Inc. a lot.

As Magnus says, MI has the best human character in any of the Pixar films (Boo). So I wonder if they will keep her as a small child or have her grow up or not have her at all hmmm....

Y'all think Boo is better than everyone from The Incredibles? I mean, Edna?

I hope they take it in a COMPLETELY different direction.

Like have little to nothing to do with the factory.

Hopefully Factory should not be a focus bcos that story is over.

I am not too crazy about this as pixar already has 2 sequels planned. Are they running out of ideas.

1 sequel in 10 films, and now perhaps 3 of their next 5 films could be sequels. I'm sure they'll still be good films, but its too many sequels at once imo. A Monster's Inc sequel could come out 12 years after the last film if it is released in 2013. Even longer than Toy Story 2/3's gap.

Yes indded. Too many at once is the problem. Space them out among original fair IMO.

I don't see how can a sequel to Monsters, Inc. work? The first one ended itself up perfectly.

Pixar's releases
1995 Toy Story
1998 A Bug's Life
1999 Toy Story 2
2001 Monsters Inc.
2003 Finding Nemo
2004 The Incredibles
2006 Cars
2007 Ratatouille
2008 Wall-E
2009 Up
2010 Toy Story 3
2011 Cars 2 & The Bear and the Bow
2012 Newt
2013 Monsters Inc. 2

I'm not liking 3 sequels in 4 years. It also outnumbers the number of original films released during that period.
Next thing you know we've got Wall-E 2 and Toy Story 4.

Looking at that slate, it's kind of amazing that Pixar has resisted sequels for so long. Especially since we're already on our like 4th Shrek movie when that was released the same year as Monsters, Inc.

See, that's the problem many people have with sequels. They assume it has to be a similar story. Mostly people think that way because that's how Hollywood thinks: "We just had a hit! Make a sequel, but make it almost exactly like the previous film!"

We have two great main characters and a very interesting world of monsters. There are lots of things that can be done with that. I dunno, they're asked to judge a monster beauty pagent and the mob gets involved. Scully falls in love and Mike tries to help him. They find a treasure map and fight pirate monsters. Come on, there's plenty that can be done.

Pixar has already proven themselves with sequels through TS2 and soon with TS3. As NUTS as it sounds, they can go as far as a fourth sequel to any of their movies and still be a critical and financial success.
