Well, it's okay to up one's predictions, I think it happened to most if not all players with STAR TREK...

It outopened my prediction by about $10m. I'm so happy i could do a frigging salto! Now PLEASE let the legs carry it to at least $200m...

Congrats Mark! Irrespective of the sub-$100m, your faith in the film's success has been vindicated. Well done!

THX! Even though the club failed I'm still a happy camper with this opening weekend (which I feel might be a little bit underestimated) and I'm also happy about the fact that the movie delivers...

You can't honestly believe that bullshit.
It's not even worth my time to disprove something so idiotic.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (see post 318)
Iron Man's WOM can't be compared to LOTR or Pirates though.
IM's WOM was more like Transformers. If there was a scale 1-5, 5 being the best WOM a film could be receiving, a film like Iron Man would be a 4, while LOTR/Pirates would be 5.

Iron Man, TDK and Star Trek all have As on Yahoo. I think Gran Torino and Slumdog Millionaire retained As for some time, as well.

There are more than 5 movies this year alone that will have a better multiplier than Star Trek. Thus proving that those movies WOM were better than Star Trek. What a pointless comparision. Sunshine Cleaning was an indie release that gained more and more theaters and marketing as it went along, HFD/Coraline were kids movies, plus they both opened relatively low, and HFD opened over a holiday. Paul Blart opened over a holidy, plus it was a family movie, and don't forget that it only hit 32m OW, whereas this hit 72m. In other words a lot of the audience is already out of the way, that's why multipliers of sleeper hits and blockbusters can't be compared and certainly can't speak to WOM. Congratulations munky, you made one of the top 10 most worthless arguments I've seen on this forum, of course, it is you, I'm pretty sure you hold at least five spots on that list. Plus I've only been here for 5 months, but neverthless, it was an INCREDIBLY pointless and innacurate argument, so don't feel like it's not an accomplishment, it certainly is!

Though it didn't hit 100, I'm very proud of Trek's performance and quality, and look forward to it competing very favorably with pretty much everything else this year.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (see post 318)
Not that it means all THAT much but ST is currently registering as a "must go" for fandango reviews, the only one I have ever seen on there, (almost all films hit a go, and the less well-received get a so-so) it's a relatively small basis, but that means that online WOM is off the charts, I think the last film to get this kind of buzz and user-reviews was TDK.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (see post 318)
So STAR TREK crossed the $100m mark on its seventh day... Back in November noone thought that would be possible... (and most didn't even think that the final gross would reach 9 digits...)

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (see post 318)
Most isn't fair, a lot of people said 125m+, but a ton of people vastly underestimated it, and few people thought it would hit 200m (which it is almost guaranteed to do). I still say my original 250m+ club can be a big success.

Hopefully this weekend will make that true, John. If your club is a success, I'm thinking that'll lock my club too :-)
