 Re: Gran Torino
Freakin' loved it. Clint Eastwood just wows me every scene and every line. The movie's way funnier than I imagined it would be. I loved the little buildups toward the end too, like Eastwood calling his son to give him one last chance then getting totally blown off to giving his barber $20 randomly. Anyone else think it was hilarious that of the three confessions he made, one was not paying taxes when he sold some engine part?

"They dont want to be your bro, and I dont blame them"
One of the funniest movies of the year. Eastwoods angry old man lines are great. Everything else was very "made for tv" (the retarded family subplots?) Everything seemed so obnoxiously exagerated ("Can I have your sofa when your dead?")...but even its poorly acted at times by some of the actors, it still gets you. Eastwood is the movie though. Anybody else (I heard somebody saying Harrison Ford would have been better) and the movie would have straight to dvd.

Eastwood was the only passable thing about this movie. And even he got annoying to me. The supporting cast was terrible. Everybody. Huge disappointment.
"Grrrr racist slur." "Oh, you're old so I forgive you. Let's be friends." "Grrrr ok. Racist slur." "Hehehe."
The End.

Any comments from that racist motherfucker, Spike Lee? Figured his bigot mouth would be running fast and hard about the racial slurs Clint uses in this film. Hearing Eastwood say spook and spade had to have made that chip on his shoulder start buzzing.

A B+ would be my grade. Not exactly the end all be all, but entertaining. I hear that Robert Downey Jr. does the DVD commentary "in character". I'd like to hear that. I recall him saying that in the movie, that he doesn't break character until after the DVD commentary.

Overboard (#24) is actually my all time favorite romcom, and the Money Pit (#15) is my second favorite Tom Hanks film. The 'burbs is my favorite. (#11) I miss when Tom Hanks did comedy.

But if there's anything racist on that show right now its pretty safe that it will come from Pat Buchanan.

6/10 haha and that sums up the movie. I almost totally agree, although the priest was pretty good, and his kids were fine, the young asian girl was okay at best, and the boy was bad border-lining awful. A big disappointment with terrible writing, mediocre acting on behalf of everyone except Eastwood, who was great fun and actually quite enjoyable. It's a sentimental movie, trying to make points about racism, while trying to be funny, while trying to be serious, while being wayyyyyy to blunt. Even Eastwood's directing felt really lazy, personally he seemed to care a lot more about The Changeling while behind the camera than this film. Bad movie that only survives on Clint's automatic awesomeness. 6/10

 Re: Gran Torino
Congrats to Clint!
From Yahoo....
"Gran Torino," directed by and starring Clint Eastwood as a bigot who becomes a reluctant neighborhood hero, has now earned more than $110 million, making it Eastwood's highest grossing film.
It surpassed "In the Line of Fire," which starred Eastwood and made $102 million, and "Unforgiven," directed and starring Eastwood, which earned $101 million. "Unforgiven" won Oscars in 1992 for best picture and best director.
PS. But guess this was mainly due to inflation.

 Re: Gran Torino
Wow, this was one of the few films last year that got me from start to finish! I gotta say Clint SHOULD have been at least nominated for his performance. Clint being a bad-ass and all and those LOL moments made it. The ending was handled out perfectly as well. I now understand where the 140m+ gross is coming from. For the record, I haven't seen M$B, Unforgiven, nor Good, Bad, Ugly. A-

10/10 -> A
I completely fell for this one. It's now my top movie of last year. Funnily enough both of my top 2 movies of 2008 are deeply flawed, but both of them were such a rewarding experience. It only goes to prove that the movie does not need to excel in every aspect or be completely perfect to be wonderful.

GRAN TORINO - 8/10 (B+)
I should have known not to underestimate Clint Eastwood. Whether he directs, stars in them, or both, his movies always deliver. I wasn't so sure I would care for GRAN TORINO, but it was highly enjoyable. Clint gave another great performance. A very funny and touching movie. It's not as great as MILLION DOLLAR BABY, but it's still a damn good film. It's not surprising moviegoers loved this.

 Re: Gran Torino
Yeah you rarely see roles like this any more. Its all a one person show in this film. The rest were okay but Eastwood was like Godlike in this film. You could not hate him even though he was a bastard. The old tired man who still hold his morals and ideals over anything against all odds.
This film is fun and entertaining and has great story...
Clint Eastwood really went off into the sunset with a bang...
With a role like this he will remembered by modern day moviegoers as a great actor/director and well be always respected for his all time roles as the Man with no Name and as Dirty Harry.
Say what you want about him personally but if you look at his career he is an all time great.
Also this out grossing Benjamin Button was a big FU to the Oscars.

 Re: Gran Torino
This is easily the biggest positive surprise from last year. The movie is cliched as hell and full of stereotypes but it works in such a wonderful way. I was never too big on Eastwood but he was truly great in this one. Like most already said the supporting actors weren't nearly as good as he was, except the priest and Carroll Lynch in a pretty hilarious little part as barber. I've seen it for the second time today and I'll raise my grade to a straight A.
