where the kid goes def, or the one where he denounces his son, or the climax in the church where he gets baptized are all more engrossing, intense, and crucial to the message/theme.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Maybe, but mention There Will Be Blood to anyone ten years from now and I doubt they'll be quoting the scene where Daniel Day Lewis denounces his son.

Re: Still one of the best scenes of the decade
Strangely enough when I saw the thread title, I was also thinking of Children of Men, so I agree with Shrub. That film should have won Best Picture that year.

Best scene of the decade:
Regardless, they should be, whether they do or not. Actually my favorite is the oil explosion/son goes deaf one.

Anchorman, There Will Be Blood, Kill Bill, Moulin Rouge, Children of Men, Zoolander, they're all great scenes.

That didn't take too long. Less than 3 hours.

I love that scene.
I add
I couldn't find the clip without some emo song on Youtube, and it isn't the greatest of the decade, but Tai Lung's escape in Kung Fu Panda is pretty good.

It takes place in this decade. Too much to post the whole movie, so I had to do some distillation.
