Richardson's Ambulance Ride Confirms Condition

Posted Mar 18th 2009 10:08AM by TMZ Staff

TMZ has obtained information about Natasha Richardson's ambulance ride in New York to Lenox Hill Hospital -- she was "unconscious," her pupils "non-reactive," her skin was "pale" and she was suffering from "major head trauma."

We're told her husband Liam Neeson held her hand the entire time and caressed her face as he sat in silence.

We're also told when the plane landed in New Jersey, medics on board told members of the ambulance team that Richardson was "brain dead."

so sad

Uh, this still isn't really official?

Still, it seems to all be building up to an inevitable conclusion. How incredibly tragic. :(

While it's certainly possible, there is no way an ambulance medic could tell if it's a trauma induced coma or if she's brain dead. You need to be able to run tests, monitor brain activity, etc. Sure there are signs that point to it, but they can't tell for sure at that stage.

I do believe the story was that she was diagnosed as brain dead in Canada, and flown to NY to die there. So, the Ambulance crew in NY would have likely got the Canadian diagnosis, which would have come after some type of brain scan (if Canadians possess that technology?).

That is terrible. If there's one thing I'm gonna be more aware of now is that if I ever get my head injured I'm going to see a doctor right away. No waiting, I don't wanna be one of those "talking dead".

Wow, this is sad. I remember first seeing her in 101 Dalmatians.

Best of Luck to Niam, and Vanessa.

Oops, never mind. It was Parent Trap I first saw her in then. I got the two mixed up.

There seems to be an ever-growing movement on KJ that no one here cares when something bad happens. I'm all for not feigning some fake emotions, but ... really.

Anyway, it's a pretty sad way to die, for her and her family. Not that there's a fun way to die, but no one should die that young.

It's a real shame. She always seemed cute and nice, unlike her mom who was the heir to the masengil fortune.

I agree that it's a sad way to die for her family, but other than the fact she died relatively young, it really is not such a bad way to die. A couple hours of headaches and disorientation before slipping into a coma.

This is surely quite a pleasant way to die compared to the horrifically lengthy suffering and sickening treatments I have seen some friends and family members go through before finally blessedly dying of cancer. Or the years of terrified confusion suffered by some people with Alzheimers. Or burning to death in a car accident.

If I had a choice on how to die, this one would be towards the top of my list...

Blunt impact caused Natasha Richardson's death

Wasn't an aneurysm as some suggested. As the article suggested in the other thread, you hit your head hard enough and in the right spot, it could be serious.

Very sad. Natasha RIP :(

Stories like this are always more depressing? than those that involve drugs or whatever, yet people seem to care less about them. I guess I can understand why, but for me, an accident like this is > than someone overdosing or something.
