 Re: Watchmen
Just one question to those who have read the novel.
The story is set in 1985 and they claim Nixon is in his 4th term as President. Seeing that he was elected in 1968, shouldnt he be in his 5th term in office in 1985? (atleast after January)

Well at least the same scenes in the movie and the book aren't that great from what I'm hearing. Mars and all, since I felt Dr. Manhattan was a real fucker and Laurie was just a whore.

So I was browsing a couple of Malin Akerman photos at IMDb, and found out she was that SAME girl from The Heartbreak Kid. Stupid and late but.... HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!

Heartbreak Kid was so bad that I forced myself to block almost all of it from my memory, I still remember Ben Stiller being really annoying but that's about it. I don't remember the girl hardly at all, I just remember thinking her character was an awful person.

Mr. Inc wrote: Just got back, my mind is racing with thoughts on it. This is a review for now but, in short, brilliant. Honestly, I didn't go in expecting to be blown away and that may have helped but this film at times, was a masterpiece. Never a full one, or even a very good one but from scenes like Dr. Manhattans rise, to Rorschach's prisoning I was just in awe. Lets get this out of the way, the slow motion worked beautifully in most of the scenes in the film. It was a bit too much during the Comedians death (which was done excellently) but honestly I didn't mind it. The casting, top notch. Jackie Earle Haley is one of the best casting choices as Rorschach I have seen since Jackman as Wolverine (not in terms of acting, but in overall just being the character). He is, masterful. Also, I didn't recognize Patrick Wilson as Nite Owl II until half way through the film, his transformation, IMO, could not have been better. The adaptation itself is beautiful, especially in the Dr. Manhattan transformation scene, I was again, in awe. I feel like i'm giving this film a massive blow job, but I was never once bored, not entertained or hating the film. I think the last third was a bit weaker than the rest of the film, but still it's was pretty beautiful. Was it too much of a literal adaptation? At times, but it was so faithful that it became it's own, it became a fanboy orgasm. And with saying that, the film will probably have no cross over appeal WHAT SO EVER. It's too faithful especially in the second half (minus the ending) to really grab in the average movie goer. Even getting past it being a graphic novel, Watchmen is a world of it's own and you have to read to the graphic novel, you have to accept the world to truly be entertained. I could be wrong though, and I hope I am. The soundtrack was hit and miss, more hit though, maybe just not the inclusion of 99 Red Balloons. This film is anything but "meh", I can see people hating it and absolutely jizzing over it, but Watchmen does not leave you, the viewer, in the land of meh. It's just not a middle ground film. A Read though most of this thread....and basically everyone said everything ( to page 8 when I got to this one.) Bolded some comments I liked/agreed with. Movie was very good with some great scenes....think a second viewing will be worth it as now you don't have to try to figure out what is happening, you can enjoy the little things. Also as the movie was like just short of 3 hours, it moved along pretty well. One thing that surprised me was that I kept on hearing how other than Dr. Manhattan, none had powers.....but talk about some great fighters and hand to hand fight scenes!!!!!!! ( Guess they were just trained very well, like Batman's dark knight????????)

I know a lot of people don't like 300, but I absolutely loved that, and Watchmen is not nearly as memorable to me in certain respects. think anyway who liked Watchmen should see it a second time. I would think a second viewer would increase the like factor as one could just enjoy it without having to study it.

 Re: Watchmen
Well just came back to say I watched it. It was pretty damn good. A solid A. Fuck the audiences and the stupidity. I didn't find many faults with it unlike the rest of you, the only thing slightly bothering was the editing but then again my country cut/censored here and there throughout. The Hallelujah scene was also cut but it was funny while it lasted. Will buy the uncut, unrated, extended DVD or whatever it is since there's no point in me watching the same cut thing in the cinema. See you in May/June.

Great stuff:
Opening credits Jeffrey Dean Morgan Jackie Earle Haley Backalley fight Ozymandias' assassination attempt
Bad stuff:
Any scene with Wilson and Akerman together by their own. Very cringe-worthy Laurie and Dr. Manhattan on Mars at the end On 1 above, they were good in the prison scene, IMO On 2 above, would the movie have made sense without that scene. Anyway, I didn't mind this as he was just talking about how and why he left Earth .....

 Re: Watchmen
Everything in the beginning made me feel as though I was going to be watching one truly special film but the film started to lose me little by little during the second half.
Snyder made a huge blunder, he alienated the general public that isnt all that keen or aware of the graphic novel. While visually very impressive, Snyder failed as a filmmaker. He doesnt have his own voice or mark on the film (besided the awesome intro and horrible ending), it's a straight adaptation but condensed in a way that a non-fan (more than half the people actually going to see the film) will get lost.
I loved plenty of bits and pieces of the film, but as a whole....it just didnt really work all that well.

I saw it again on IMAX. (... which didn't even feel all that much different, surprisingly/disappointingly I love this movie. I think I enjoyed it even more than the first time I saw it. What worked for me this time around was the acting, actually.

Peace, Mike Uh, Philip Glass didn't work on the film. The bits composed by him are taken from Koyaanisqatsi, over 25 years ago.

 Re: Watchmen
I loved it. I never read the comic or have even seen a trailer (well, one months ago) so I knew pretty much nothing about the film and was extremely pleasently surprised. While I had my problems with the ending (especially Goode's speech at the end) I enjoyed the movie throughout. The parts with Dean Morgan were the highlights of the film and I was fine with Akerman too. Oh and Rorschach was just cool. Can't wait to see this again. What a great way to start the year. A

If it weren't for the awkward sex scenes, this would be a near lock for my number one film of the year. It was that fucking good.
The Vietnam war, for some reason, has to be one of my all time favorite scenes, even if it was just a few seconds long.

 Re: Watchmen
Watched Tales of the Black Freighter and Under The Hood yesterday. As entertaining as the material presented in the comics (less than a hour total runtime), though something is lost when its viewed out of context I think.
I'm interested in seeing how it plays once its inserted into Watchmen.
