Hehe, no, even though the trailer put a smile on my face and gave me chills.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for this club, though, definitely.

No way. But if this does come true - it will be the greatest KJ club victory ever.

proud I did join ! I still don't think this is very likely, but I don't see why not. It looks fantastic and paramount will put a lot of muscle behind it. GO TREK GO!

I'm still in the no camp, but if the film lives up to that trailer, I'm cheering for this club

Judging by the poll so far, the trailers seem to be working...

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (CLOSED)
I know the download records for the new trailer say more about the fans than the overall appeal, though I do wonder: How big will the midnights be? I have a hard time not seeing it at least beat Watchmen at this point ($4.5 million), assuming they're widespread.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (CLOSED)
Opening night, most likely. I know quite a few people who want to see it.
But yeah, $100 million in one weekend isn't happening. It could break out and have a really big start, but that huge an opening is out of the question.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (CLOSED)
It's a pretty well-run club, I'll give you that. It looks the best movie of the summer at present moment, but, you can never tell, it was only a trailer after all.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (CLOSED)
I'm thinking about $7-8 million in the midnights. This will be insanely frontloaded in the first weekend. If it is good, it will rebound later, but the first weekend will lure all the Trekkies out of their basements. (no offense to the Trekkies).
Anyway, I think it might make up to 30-35% of its opening day gross in midnights.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (CLOSED)
I still don't see this at all. The movie is like Batman Begins, traing to resurrect a franchise in shambles. If that one didn't even make 50 how is ST a far less liked franchise able to pull off more than the double of that?

mark66 wrote: Dr. Lecter, what are you expecting in Germany? I think it will very much depend on summer weather. Especially in May, some films with a lot of potential were hurt big time by hot weather. But the franchise has usualkly done pretty well here. I think an opening with around 700,000 admissions and a total just above 2 million sounds likely...unless the weather plays against it. But shiuld be a lock for 1.2-1.4 million in any case.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (CLOSED)
Okay, this club opened November 15th (and closed February 14th)...
I know that nobody wanted to join the club after the deadline...
But there is one thing I would like to know:
Who's willing to admit that he/she raised their opening weekend predictions since November?

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (CLOSED)
Yeah Ive increased my prediction from $20m's to admitting it can go as high as $50m OW. The fanboys will make up half of that but what could save this is the mainstream appeal. Im still not sold about the release date or faboy support (they abandoned the franchise in 2002) but I'd be happy with an opening above $30m. Legs should be strong (like BB and CR).

The hope (IMO) is fantastic, incredible, unvelievable, marketing. I was still kinda young then but I remember BB had very very mediocre marketing, extremely unremarkable. This is the opposite, it has beautiful fancy mainstream looking trailers, previews, posters, and tv spots.
