 Re: Watchmen
I thought Wilson gave a pretty spot on performance personally.
Ackerman was pretty awful.
Haley and Morgan gave the two best performances hands down.

My friend left the theater because she couldn't take any more of the soul-pounding it was giving her. I decided I wouldn't be missing much to keep her company for a while, and went back in just because I wanted to see the ending. Yeah, if it were just me, I would have stayed. I made it through Monster-in-Law, I could have made it through this. And those opening credits: some of the most inventive, captivating cinema of the year. I wish they'd been as creative with the rest of the project's endless exposition.

 Re: Watchmen
That makes a bit more sense. I've sat through some awful films but I've never wanted to deal with the "well, you didn't see the whole thing" rebuttals.

They even have the same inflections and stuff. Just weird.

Well, it felt uncomfortable, at any rate.
I've only heard the Wainright one. Because that's what TV producers like to use in their montages. Yup it was Leonard Cohen. Which made it hilariously odd. At least they didn't go for Buckley. I still get flashbacks of Mischa Barton dying on The O.C.

With her slightly seedy tone and askew look, she exactly matched the style of the other Watchmen. I thought she was perfect for the role! How about the fact that the book version of that character is far more emotional? Akerman gave a pretty flat performance. Nowhere near as emotional as the character in the book itself. You do realize that when you read, you put the emotion in yourself. It's all in your head.

He's gay. :p
Wait, he had one?
I know in the movie version he's supposed to fake an American accent in public and speaks with a slight German accent in private.

She also recalled Cameron Diaz a lot in 27 Dresses.

And pictures showing a character crying means the character is crying. There is no "in your head" to it. It's the intent of the writer and artist.

 Re: Watchmen
Creators in every type of media - - authors, directors, artists, songwriters, etc. - - often strive to elicit emotion within their audiences. They use all manner of techniques from the exclamation mark to the tone of the performance of an actress.
I believe Malin Akerman's performance was intentionally low key. It seemed entirely fitting of the melancholy vibe that ran throughout this film.
(Whether that matches the expectations of readers of the graphic novel is not my concern - - I am viewing the movie as a freestanding artwork.)

All the performances were stiff. Haley's performance even more so, the character was practically one dimensional. Patrick Wilson's is the poster child for limited range acting

 Re: Watchmen
Saw it again. Good parts were even better and not so good parts seemed even worse. Overall, sticking to the same grades.
Great stuff:
Opening credits Jeffrey Dean Morgan Jackie Earle Haley Backalley fight Ozymandias' assassination attempt
Bad stuff:
Any scene with Wilson and Akerman together by their own. Very cringe-worthy Laurie and Dr. Manhattan on Mars at the end

 Re: Watchmen
Finally saw Watchmen at a packed Tuesday night session. Well I wasnt expecting much and ive never read the novel - but I kinda loved it. Well most of it anyway (it suffers a little in the last 30 mins). Loved The opening scene with the Comedian The brilliant Minutemen opening credit sequence (just amazing) especially with "The times, they are a changin'" playing Rorshach The Comedian The Prison Scenes Dr Manhattan Origin scene (very well done) Almost all the flashbacks The overall style and visuals Didnt care for: The scenes on Mars The end could have been better, but it was ok SSII and NO II love connection I had no problem with Akerman. She wasnt perfect but did a good enough job. BTW - I wasnt fond of how easily NO found out the password - but Ramses in Greek is Ozymandius - hence the password connection. Also I didnt realise Mars actually did have a smiley face crater. Nice cooincidence Grade A/A-
