Yeah, the RDJ comparison really makes no sense.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan/Dead Denny looks nothing like Robert Downey Jr? Javier Bardem, on the other hand, I can definitely see.

This must mean that Shonda Rhimes is desperately trying to cast Bardem in her new show, if her never-ending crush on JDM and constantly bringing back his character on Grey's Anatomy despite being DEAD and all means anything.

When I saw the teaser with the Dark Knight I thought he looked like Downey Jr. -shrug-

I'd really, really like to see Watchmen again.

Every person I know thought he was RDJ.

I can... KINDA see it. But not at all.

it was just that image in the first trailer that threw everybody off - I thought it was RDJ for a while myself... at least, it looks more like him there than it does Bardem (though in real life they look like twins).

I thought it was a great adaptation. Minor flaws would include the makeup on Nixon and Sally Jupiter, Goode's acting as Veidt earlier in the film (he improved a lot towards the end of the film as Ozymandias), and Akerman's acting throughout the entire thing. Wilson, Haley, Morgan, and Crudup all knocked their roles out of the park. The visuals were stunning, and I was amazed at how much of the story that Snyder was able to cram into 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Overall I'd give the theatrical cut an A- and I am very excited for the Director's Cut.

I don't get all the hate towards Malin Akerman.

With her slightly seedy tone and askew look, she exactly matched the style of the other Watchmen. I thought she was perfect for the role!

How about the fact that the book version of that character is far more emotional? Akerman gave a pretty flat performance. Nowhere near as emotional as the character in the book itself.

Damnit Dude - - I'm a movie fan, not a graphic novel reader!

I'm judging her performance solely based within the context of the movie itself. I'll have to leave the inter-media analysis to the hardcore comic nerds, because I don't find such comparisons especially relevant or interesting...

It's impossible to ignore the fact that she was pretty boring compared to the same character in the book.

Even then, her performance is about as flat as it gets. There's simply not much there, even if you haven't read the book. She's nearly as lifeless as Crudup's Manhattan. :funny:

Surprise surprise, I'm siding with Bradley. Considering she was one of the least flashy roles, I thought she held her own commendably. Her character is displayed with her relationships to men, but I never once thought she was particularly incapable. I would blame the way comic books have always regarded female heroes, and to a lesser extent Snyder's understanding of the male psyche (or lack thereof of the opposite) on any percieved weakness on Akerman's part. And in retrospect, while she may have been younger than the comic book character, she certainly impressed me with her brave performance in The Heartbreak Kid - certainly the best part of that forgettable snack.

I thought Malin Akerman was bland, but I thought was true of pretty much the entire main cast other than Jackie Earle Haley. So, no, she wasn't horrendous or anything.

Hmm, Jeffrey Dean Morgan was pretty great as well, no?

Yeah, I was including him and Carla Gugino as not "the main cast."

Patrick Wilson's performance won me over on my second viewing. There's a sadness to his character and he's earnest. Closest thing IMO of how a real vigilante would look and operate.

If there's anyone that absolutely brings nothing to the role, its Matthew Goode. I know the producers didn't need to spend even more money but the role of Ozymandias would have worked better with an A-list actor.

Intersting. I actually thought Goode worked well as Ozymandias because Ozymandias is actually supposed to look bland and arrogant and he pulls that off well :funny:

Wilson didn't work for me at all and neither did Akerman (but Wilson bothered me more since his role was actually more integral, IMO).

The only acting stand-out's, as I said, are Morgan and Haley...but Gugino does very well in her few scenes. Hope to see more of her on DVD.

BTW, what was up with Moloch's ears? It's a while that I read the comics...

An indulgent pop nightmare.

I actually walked out and hung in the lobby with a friend for most of the last third. I returned to see Matthew Goode (whose eye-poppingly mannered performance is probably the worst) give his hilarious Agatha Christie-style "talking killer" speech, made all the funnier because I did not have the immediate context.

The theater quickly became hostile toward this thing. I've never seen a full theatre explode in derisive laughter the way they did at the sex scene set to some strange tone deaf James Brown-ish version of 'Hallelujah'. Although Billy Crudup's endless monotone monologue about his origin came close. Yikes!

I knocked this down a little bit grade-wise, I'm at a B rather than a B+ now. Many parts of it have already faded from my memory, so.

I know a lot of people don't like 300, but I absolutely loved that, and Watchmen is not nearly as memorable to me in certain respects.

SHUT THE FUCK UP NO WAY

Well, it felt uncomfortable, at any rate.

I've only heard the Wainright one. Because that's what TV producers like to use in their montages.

When I close my eyes and just listen to Akerman talk, I still hear Cameron Diaz. It's kind of eerie to me.
