Re: I don't get Hilary Swank
billybobwashere wrote: She has given two very good performances, but the sad truth is that she's unattractive (or at least, not-pretty) and therefore has a lot more trouble getting good roles than most other Oscar-winning actresses (like Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, etc).
Yeah... I'd also say she doesn't translate into "non-drama" roles too well... not that Theron/Berry/Kidman have killed it there, but you could at least see them headlining decent projects... Swank is eh, whatever

Re: I don't get Hilary Swank
Do they show her past as a spy or just her cooking part of life?

Re: I don't get Hilary Swank
Swank vs Streep would be interesting.
Anyway, Swank can really deliver a powerful performance. She was amazing in Boys Don't Cry, and great in Million Dollar Baby.

Hmm, if the performance is really good, I don't think they'd snub Streep for the 118th time in a row.

She deserved the Oscar over Winslet in The Reader (than again, Winslet for Rev. Road - I'd see it differently).

Re: I don't get Hilary Swank
they can't resist meryl in a biopic. simply not gonna happen.
but stop taking bait-y roles, ms. streep! think 'adaptation' or 'devil wears prada,'...not baity at all. and they still nommed her anyways.

Re: I don't get Hilary Swank
yeah, this sounds oscar baity to the max Quote: A frustrated temp secretary (Amy Adams) embarks on a year-long culinary quest to cook all 524 recipes in Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking. She chronicles her trials and tribulations in a blog that catches on with the food crowd. The film also covers the years Julia Child (Meryl Streep) and her husband Paul (Stanley Tucci) spent in Paris during the 1940s and 1950s, when he was a foreign diplomat who was eventually investigated by Sen. Joseph McCarthy for alleged communist ties

Re: I don't get Hilary Swank
I think she's a great actress and very attractive to boot. Also the Core needs more love.

Guys, it's Nora Ephron. Bait and nominee are two very different things.

Re: I don't get Hilary Swank
I've always liked her. She's incredible actress and very pretty in my opinion. I think she might just get a nomination for Amelia. Some of her other films like P.S. I Love You are quite awful though.
