 Re: Vertigo
second viewing reveals this as one of the most ambitious pictures I've had the privilege of seeing. how hitch manages to exemplify both what an auteur picture really is and make perfect hollywood thriller is beyond the comprehension of not only myself, but basically any other director.
if I weren't so stubborn, this would be my favorite movie.

 Re: Vertigo
I prefer Rear Window over vertigo. But it has a very intriguing concept but execution could have been better.

 Re: Vertigo
It is not only flawlessly crafted but emotionally involving and pretty wonderful to watch unfold. Definitely the best ending of the few Hitchcock films I have seen. Yet it continues the streak of films by Hitchcock that seem to apply that notorious term "overrated." I love his films, they are magnificient I would never deny this. Yet with all the hype he gets as the greatest auteur of all time, I'm just not buying it. This film is terrific, but it does not rank amongst my all time favorites, neither does any other film I've seen by him. This may change with time, I am simply musing with what I feel now.

 Re: Vertigo
The final act is deliciously twisted and fetishistic, and it's shot like a dream. But that's not enough for it to enter into all-time classic mode for me, especially with the aforementioned complaints of the very end, last of integrating vertigo into the plot, and the slow start. I liked it more upon second viewing than first, but I still don't see why it's considered Hitchcock's masterpiece.
But I would love to have someone who does think this is one of the best movies ever made get into a little bit more detail on why this is so!

 Re: Vertigo
The very end is absolutely wonderful. A shadow turning into a nun: is there a more glorious filmic metaphor evoking a sense of past and guilt in less than a second? It's short, offbeat... but sharp as a knife.
