The simple inclusion of a twist attempt indicates trying. Rom-coms almost always don't bother including something the viewer doesn't know before seeing the movie.

Isnt Saw a torture film?, I dont consider Saw a horror film, so The last horror film twist was.... nevermind I dont remember any horror twist that is surprising.

Saw is definitely a horror film. It's a torture horror film AKA torture porn as it is derogatorily called.

Romcom. At least the bad ones don't have more splatters or "jump" moments (gotta love PG-13 "horror") than I care to sit through.

SPOILER
Saw 1 is barely even a torture film. They don't even show the foot being cut off. It's tame by today's standards.

I'm curious as to what they have in common other than sheep who will see everything one genre pumps out. "Oh, Jennifer Aniston! How cute! Oh, the girl from Wedding Crashers! So cute!" / "Oh, this time the ghost isn't Asian! Awesome! Oh, this time the massacre's in the woods, not in a house! Wicked!"

Nothing really.

It's just that Joe has a habit of bashing rom-coms all the time.

Saw is garbage, and so are the people that watch it.

I don't know, it depends. On one hand, rom coms would be the easier answer. But i'm always far more disappointed by romcoms than horror films. But i think romcoms can be great more often than horror films.

Horror has more potential as a genre (see: The Shining), but there have been more great rom-coms. So I'd go with rom-coms.

So you expect more from romcoms! Answer solved!

The standard formula is a poor excuse by either argument.
Every movie boils down to something general, using that as an argument is a complete failure.

I'd go with romcoms as they're more easily digestible for me as a moviegoer, probably because of the fact that I've seen so many( I have two sisters). Otherwise, I think the amount of movies of each genre which are above average is about the same for both.

I think the ratio of cinema classics favors horror movies.

I also think the ratio of more recent, better films within the genres, favours RomComs.

I think it really just comes down to personal taste. Both genres are certainly more miss than they are hit.
