Munich isn't THAT far away from my place. Damn!
What did you like the most about the scenes? I've read a lot of good things about Chris Pine while Spock didn't get that much screen time in those 25 minutes.

Well, you must be in exhibition/distribution to get into the convention...
I think old Spock got more screentime than young Spock... The thing is that even though the scenes were quite different they were fast moving and highly entertaining (and they injected some humor too)... And technically (visuals, sound, fx) everything was first rate. And I'm sure I will get used to the new faces...

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club
I think it looks awesome, and I want to see it do as well as possible.....
but the last Star Trek movie made like $40m in total. I think it's truly and utterly impossible for this to then open to 2.5x more than that. Even Clerks 2, a big studio sequel to a movie that was made for 27K, only opened to 3.17x more than Clerks 1 made in total... and that was the most extreme scenario in existence. These two Star Trek movies are both from the same studio and heavily advertised... just can't happen.

Star Trek isn't popular enough. And it doesn't look that good.

Trek is that popular that even robbers are taking Batleths with them instead of earthly weapons:
This is gonna be BIG, mark my words.

what the hell, it feels possible, I can't count the number of people that have said to me, "I am SO not a trekky but this new star trek thingy looks awesome." I'm one of them as well. This is definitely going way out on a limb but sure! I'm in sign me up!

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

No.. Simply put No.. The whole Star Trek mini babies with Kirk and Spock as teenagers playing in the same sandbox reeks of desperation and I think moviegoers simply don't are about TREK anymore after the last 2 abysmal movies they made.. There hasn't been a really good Trek movie since The Wrath of Khan.. This is going to be another disappointment like WATCHMEN will be..

Star trek will only make over 100m opening weekend if they feature this fight with the music, reenacted in a more modern time.
I'll be sooooo there.

It's interesting to see that some of the naysayers like EXCEL ($30m-40m opening) or ZUULE ($35m) or SOLC9 ($50m) have no trouble joining the FRIDAY THE 13TH $45m in four days club...

Haha yeah F13 is totally gonna open to more than Star Trek I mean COME ON! They spent like 1/10th as much on that, it is in February, it is not a tentpole, it is a horror movie, and it doesn't look as cool. People need to stop thinking about this as a "trek" movie cause that is not what this is, it will appeal far beyond that audience, if you don't believe that prepare to be shocked come may.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (will close soon)
Sportsbook Intertops.com is offering 17 to 1 odds (4th best) that Star Trek will have the top 3-day gross of 2009. By contrast, its nearest neighbors are Wolverine (5.5 to 1) and New Moon (19 to 1).
While funny, they must have some info to think it will come closer to 100 than most of us think (like, 60-80). Still... naaa. This is more likely going to go down like Superman Returns - pretty high opening, but nothing earth-shattering.
Star Trek is too saturated in popculture for it to break out beyond a natural limit, which seems to be 50m. The 80's films were all more attended than the 90's ones (Edit - ok sorry, not quite true, but that has been the trend), and the 2002 one was the lowest attended of all.

Speed Racer was like a LSD trip, nothing like Star Trek. Bad comparison.
I wasn't really directly comparing SR, just saying it was basically being sold mostly based on the title, a title that had a cult following and heyday awhile ago. A similar example is Serenity, another title that came in well under expectations.
Following these examples, I just don't think this is the kind of title that will attract new fans the way that others can. I see the hype point to a gross greater than the actual will be.
