And roo is right. Loyal, i think you would be the last person I'd ever have a human conversation with about film on here. Even though you are have much knowledge about films. You come off as a hairy, arrogant fanboy if a movie is good, or a screaming old bitter banshee if a film gets in your way, even before you've seen the movie.

You gave The Reader a B which pretty much invalidates any opinion you have on the matter Dino :funny:

You keep proving roo right.

Actually I gave the film a B-/C+, would you like me to read it to you.

I'd equate Loyal's view on films with those of Joe's, to be quite honest.

It must be quite frustrating when people you hardly know, understand you better than yourself.

That's not really a point of frustration. I know myself quite well, that's pretty evident.

If anything, it frustrates me a little that others don't know themselves as well (whether they aren't evolved to that point yet or are unwilling is another issue). But you can't change the world. I mean, I'm trying my best to change it in my own small way (like raising $20,000 for the homeless) but sometimes it's easier just to let some things and some people fall to the wayside, as sad as it sounds. :tears:

You simply do not know yourself when it comes to movies. Judging by your reply to roo's comment you seem very perturbed by it, but why challenge it and then quote a random dude no one has ever heard of and claim his opinion is more important than those of shack's or box's. I mean really? Did we ask for that.

And just because you help the homeless that you think that gives you the right to think you are somehow better than those who don't. Yes, people do fall by the wayside, but that's because they don't want to be helped. See my comment a few weeks ago about charity being selfish is sort of true when it applies to you.

But what would I know right? I gave this a B. Wait.... that's right a B-/C+.

I know myself in grand fashion in regards to movies as well Dino. I'm one of few people here who would equally herald a summer tentpole film from Dreamworks as I would an IFC documentary about Botswana. You're barking up the wrong tree Dino, I understand the need to want to argue and stuff but this is kind of a dead end on that front.

And for the record because I do charity work, doesn't mean I'm somehow better (not sure how you inferred that one). I find people often use those type of comments as a transference. Which is fine, that goes back to my comment about people evolving and growing.

We're way off topic but I felt the need to respond to the personal attacks. Yes, The Reader sucks. Yes, you think it's B-ish worthy. Let's move on from there.

And i do to. But seeing a wide range of movies doesn't automatically make your opinion more valid than those who don't, and really like roo said, it's not about whether or not you like the film or not, it's the sheer aggressiveness.

And please, nothing in my previous post(s) contained personal attacks. Just remember, someone who disagrees with you, is not someone who is attacking you for being you.

That's pretty personal.

I would prefer to end this conversation at this point Dino because you continue to take the thread off topic. The mods are free to delete the previous 10 posts or so if they so desire to keep this wonderful thread on topic. :)

Victim denotes the attacker has some sort of strength. You're a toady queen Dino, that thrives on drama. You came in a day after my post and opted to make a string of nonsensical comments about me, instead of commenting on the film or discussion at hand. So yeah, fuck off. :D

The sad fact is none of this changes how absolutely shitty The Reader is. Starting shit with me doesn't make the acting or editing any less craptastic. :funny:

i saw the film tonight, because it was just released in Oz. and then commented on it. i have better things to do than follow you around.

and that's your opinion if you think the film is shit. quoting outside sources that you agree actually adds nothing to a forum where it's just your opinion that we asked for.

So please don't bother us with your outside help.

I wish you did have better things to do than follow me around but instead on commenting on the film, you spent two paragraphs commenting on me first. I know you love talking about me Dino but come on. :er:

I think the film would have had much greater depth if it explored German guilt a bit more, instead of having the audience endure several sex scenes which proved it's point much earlier. The film is rather powerful with good intentions, but the last third nearly dismantles all the good that comes from this movie. Ralph Fiennes is miscast here but i do think the film is at it's best when Kate Winslet is on film. She's astonishing.

I give it a B-/C+.

Usually after i've seen a movie, i will go to thread of the movie and read the posts. Then after reading all of box's and shack's post to hear you go "as if i'd read that, that's too long" and then to post a 10000 piece from someone we don't know, only because they agree with you. So yeah it fucking annoyed me. So if you want spam, eat it.

Excuse me while I apologise to Jack Daniels for not sparing your feelings.

Next time you feel someone is spamming and you have your big boy panties in a bunch, talk to a mod. Otherwise you come across as a real jackass.

Post Re: The Reader
The Reader is a solid drama helped largely by the strong performance by Kate Winslet. The first two acts especially are excellent. I found, however, that the last act fails mostly due to the editing and predictability of the writing. That said it's a well-made movie, the direction and cinematography well done. But the whole thing is rather uneven. B

Post Re: The Reader
Kate Winslet is a good actress, and Stephen Daldry is a good director. Beyond that, this movie has almost nothing going for it. It's an emotionally uninvolving tale of some very powerful subject matter, handled in a kinda nonchalant way, where the only time the story is in any way captivating is during the few minutes of trial we see. Other than that, the characters are hard to relate to, the writing is just okay, and the story is not thick enough to justify a 2-hour runtime. It could have been much better if there was another element to the story, but in the end, I just felt like something was missing from this potentially strong movie.

While watching this, I couldn't stop thinking of that scene in Wayne's World when Wayne is crying, splashing water on his face and screaming things like, "...and I never learned how to REEEEAD!" while the screen says "Oscar clip" on the bottom.

Hilarious. Cuts like a knife, don't it, Kate Winslet?

Oscar bait doesn't get more obvious or lifeless than this.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

I liked the novel (especially the 1st third), haven't seen the movie.
How would you rate it?
