Wolverine will affect Star Trek the same way Iron Man did with Speed Racer. Add that quote to the part of the "no maam" club

Terrible club by Mark66 but you have to hand it to him - the quote thing he uses in the opening post rocks!

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club
Impossible. Do you realize how hard it is to actually get a 100m OW? Just because in recent years more movies have achieved it doesn't make it so common that Star Trek can attain such heights. In fact look at the movies that have failed to hit it and compare them to ST then you'll realize the scope of the OW and realize that it will not even be remotely close. Like others have said it's total is more likely to be 100m.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club
This is the best club since the last BKB one. No, not poking fun at it, but most clubs are "Yes" or "No". This one is really fun.
Predictions seem to be all over the place, ranging from like 30M-80M on the first page. I'm thinking something around 25/65..... So yeah, don't see 100M Opening for this. Though I hope it does, it'd be an awesome call. One of the best ever I'm sure.

Trek is a pretty big taboo from my experience. A lot of people consider it a synonom for nerd.

I'm sure nobody wants to reconsider, but here's the trailer in top quality: http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/startrek/

100M total would be huge for this one.Acting looks corny. I think it will flop.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club
As much as i'd love it to top $100m in its 1st weekend, you should have waited for the sequel and then make this club (if the 1st one is very well liked among a sizable amount of non-geeks). On a side note, it's good to be back after a FRIGGIN' month of internet abstinence. They take their time in Germany...

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club
bad acting, horribly fake English accents in the trailer, Kirk grabbing Uhura's boobs in the bar fight, decisions by JJA that pissed off the aging and shrinking ST fanbase and its previous stars, dissing Shatner who has thoroughly redeemed himself since STV and not even having a cameo in it for him, trotting out the aging Leonard Nemoy to pump up the box office chances (worth 2 million), tired time travel premiss, boring romulans (most overrated and overused baddies), an obnoxious kid playing young supposedly precocious kirk in the trailer, mediocre special effects thus far...and a reimagining of a show that was firmly placed in the era of the cold war in a time of hopey dopey change you can peddle to the uninformed and delusional in need of a messiah done by a director who never loved the show to begin with...come the heck on.
They are desperately trying to win over semi fans with the latest 4 scene dog and pony show.
The bulk of the ST Fanbase has aged past the convention and wont be at the theater for this one. They might catch it on HBO.
I used to absolutely LOVE Star Trek. After watching the trailer all i can think is no chemistry and another time travel retread of a story that we already know how it ends!
No suspense.
Sorry but this has StarTrek 90210 written all over it. SFX can't save it.
They will be lucky to clear 140M final US and break 65M opening weekend.
I put it at 35 million opening and 68 Million final.
There is just nothing that screams blockbuster in the latest trailer, this wont even beat Hulk.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club
hmmmm
It looks just as good as the star wars prequels trailer wise and I have never been a fan of either Star trek franchise and the star wars prequels.
Paramount is marketing this hard. JJ and cast went to several cities in Europe and showed 25 minutes of footage last week and yesterday they showed same footage in new york. They are really marketing this nicely and are hoping it will be a new franchise even if it alienates the hardcore ST fanbase.
With the fx and JJ name i say it will crack 45 million and end with $135 million. MI3 type boxoffice domestically. ST has never done well internationally and hence the big promotion they did last week in europe so maybe with all the whiz bang it can do another 170+ million there.
The fact it is sandwiched between wolverine and A&D reminds me of speed racer situation. But this doesn't looks million times better than that shit.
Speaking of wolverine where is the freaking teaser?
I get this feeling that there will be some big trailers attached to the day the earth stood still.

Isn't JJA, 2 for 2 with underwhelming box office numbers with MI3 and Cloverfield. If this was 50 million I'd still be hesitant to join.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club
No.
Although, I'm surprised to read how low some of you think this will gross. $40m should be guaranteed for opening weekend just based on cast, crew, and we know they're gonna advertise the shit out if it. I can see it even go as high as $60-65 million if they play their cards right.
Also, I don't think Wolverine is really gonna dominate like everyone thinks. X2 figures at best.
