 Re: poor Ellen....
Why poor Ellen? For a time it seemed like she wasn't even interested in that. She just recently started to talk about it. As a prominent lesbian and fighter for rights, she should have been more active from the start. I personally think she was kinda acting like a douche on this matter. I mean frickin Brad Pitt came out of nowhere and donated a very large sum of money while it took her time - to even talk about it.

It might not be so in your face as donating millions, but it means a LOT more and makes people have a more personal response to it.

 Re: poor Ellen....
Why is her marriage more of a pro-statement than the marriage of thousands of others? Just because she's a celebrity? Screw that.
If gay marriage is viewed as a human right, than her marriage means the same as any other marriage in the world, not more and not less just because it's a gay mariage.
This was a matter of promotion and getting the word out there. Ellen did surprisingly little and surprisingly late about that.

 Re: poor Ellen....
Yeah - people talked about her marriage, not Prop8 and what it means.

This was a matter of promotion and getting the word out there. Ellen did surprisingly little and surprisingly late about that. no it was about her promoting her lifestyle as normal, like many other celebrity couples who show off their wedding photos. she more than defended gay rights on her program, and in her earlier interview with Letterman or Leno back in September.

 Re: poor Ellen....
Defending gay rights per se and actively promoting something like No to Prop 8 isn't really the same thing. She should've have talked more about Prop 8 and she should have started to talk about it much sooner than some two weeks before the voting began.
If you say gay couples should have the same right as straight couples, now you haven't really said a thing about a thing called Prop 8 and how it tries to retroactively take away the rights given to a certain group of people and you haven't done a thing to spread the word and vote no.
Ellen was known as an activist. This time, she didn't come through.

 Re: poor Ellen....
be.ready, do you know anything about Ellen other than what she's been doing for the past few months? She has probably done more for gays and lesbians than any other celebrity in Hollywood.

 Re: poor Ellen....
She has done a lot. I don't deny that. But as far as Prop 8 matters, she kinda didn't do good on that one. That's all I'm saying. ;-)
I'm not bashing her role in gay/lesbian equality promotion or whatever you want to call it.

 Re: poor Ellen....
no be.redy, while she didn't mention NO day-after-day, she still mentioned it frequently, especially when Biden was on and when Obama was on the other week i think.

 Re: poor Ellen....
you know... I'm not fully backing be.ready's accusations on Ellen but I'm not on the other side either.
Yeah, ellen did alot including a PSA tv ad, donating $100k and bringing it up again and again on the show but her show is not a political platform, it's entertainment talk show and I'm surprised she got away with as much as she did.
Now... I don't want to come off as an ungrateful ass because what she gave to the campaign was really a large donation and this is not just a slight criticism of Ellen, it's in general most celebs.... they just did not do enough. I'm sorry, but that really is the way I feel and I've expressed that before the election outcome too.
These are people's rights. This is the civil rights issue of our generation. And these celebs (especially the ones that were already so pro-gay rights and wouldn't lose all that much in being one of the faces of the NO side) really have some sway power. It may not be that much but they freakin won with less than 500,000 votes.
We had EVERYONE behind us. EVERY MAJOR CA politician... Arnold, both senators, even the San Diego Rep. Mayor switched his position to support us. GOOGLE. APPLE. I mean, why were people so afraid to REALLy speak out?
Yes, alot of celebs did offer their voice but I think they could have done alot more, even if it was just financially.
T.R. Knight gave $50,000 and then another $50,000. He recorded robocalls and he was out there on Election Day pulling an ALL-Day shift (I couldn't even do that) at the polls just like all the rest of the grassroots volunteers. I think that's quite alot for someone who's not really a superstar.
I don't know. At this point, I'm just ranting. My point is basically that this was such a monumental issue. And alot more could have been done. I havent' voiced my criticisms abou the actual NO campaign and their strategy (because I have alot) and that's only because no one here is really familiar with the actual campaign.
