Re: Lakeview Terrace
I'm surprised no one else has seen this yet...
Probably for the best though, it really isn't that great. I had a big issue with how they presented the racial issues between Jackson and Wilson/Washington... It was way over the top and it the racist theme was very powerful, which led to many incomfortable situations. Jackson did a great job in being the perfect antagonist, but too many instances just felt awkward.

Re: Lakeview Terrace
The most underrated movie of the year without a doubt. I'm premeiring my KJ review career with this, so I'll hold off until then, but nonetheless I'll mention that it works both as an examination of three very layered, very human people, and as a great, great tragedy. Highly recommended, don't miss this one, no matter what RT mistakingly says again.
Oh, and writing full reviews is fucking HARD, especially for movies with a lot to it like this one. It took me like 2 hours. But I'm sure I'll get better at it... it's a skill I'd like to hone.

Which is why I stopped doing it "professionally". I still like posting lenghtier reviews here on the boards, though. Good job too!

Re: Lakeview Terrace
Wow, yeah... impressive review Shack.
Even though i totally disagree with you on most aspects except for the great acting...
I thought the race message was pushed way too heavily and as i say in my review, as a viewer, it felt awkward.

Well, it was good. Nothing great as some say, but I thought it was enjoyable. Had a good ending as well.

Re: Lakeview Terrace
I loved the way they dealt with Sam Jackson's character. Outside of that though the film just isn't that good. The film is worth seeing for Jackson alone though.

Re: Lakeview Terrace
It's good for the most part. Once Jackson's character is demoted, it kind of falls apart.

Re: Lakeview Terrace
I actually liked it.
SLJ is surprisingly strong in this role. I thought it'd be kind of a throw-away film, but it's entertaining and sometimes intense.

Very unusual thriller, but I think the elements didn't exactly flow together. From the bachelor party onwards, it's really kind of stupid.

All around terrible. A movie without a well defined plot and leaves you with nothing. For all the racist tones overlapping in the movie it doesn't tell you anything about race. Jackson's motives are also pathetically unclear and weak at best. Acting was solid but doesn't save the movie.

Re: Lakeview Terrace
Could have been really great. I liked the fire metaphor with tension building up. But to be so much about race, like others have said, it doesn't really comment much about race. This was just one crazy dude. Jackson's character's motives didn't make complete sense either. He immediately didn't warm up to the couple because they were biracial, specifically Chris was dating a black girl. This reminded him of the possible affair his wife may have had. But then in the last quarter of the movie, it shows his Hispanic cop buddy comforting his black family. Why does Jackson's character not have a problem with him? I felt it was an undeveloped plotline, as well as the father. Beyond that, it has some decent camerawork, which makes the tense and uncomfortable scenes even better.

Re: Lakeview Terrace
In life, peoples motives are NOT always clear. I thought it was a great reflection of just how racist black people are, you know, the ones that always play the race card are actually racist too. I loved it. Samuel L. Jackson was superb. Written incredibly well.
Why do you want a film to "tell" you about race? It's entertainment, do your own research if you aren't educated enough to watch a film about race.
